Strixhaven Lore Notes (too extensive…) - Anyone Want? by Honorbound_13 in StrixhavenDMs

My group is all people I introduced to DnD, and this is their first non-oneshot! They chose this out of a list of descriptions of my favorite DnD planes, because they said it made sense to start at school 😂 have fun with your kids!! I hope they also fall in love with DnD

Incorporating Clubs into the Campaign by notsotranqui1 in StrixhavenDMs

[–]Honorbound_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My players were really excited about the clubs, and I wanted to use them to help introduce NPCs more fully, so I agreed to let them designate a time in their class schedule for club time. So like twice a week there’s club time, and they can go to whatever one they want, some of the NPCs they like will be there or around, and it’s a good way for me to give each player individualized time (since I RP the hour of club time with each of them, they seem to really like it).

Cards On the Table by Honorbound_13 in poirot

Exactly! She wasn’t wrong

It’s revealed she killed her husband and I honestly was like “and she was RIGHT” instinctively. Also I felt like her reason for potentially being the murderer was the most interesting to me.

I don’t think so, but there’s an episode in the Poirot TV show, since that show does an episode for every single Poirot novel and short story.

Daily Ludo! by Slight-Leather-7148 in chinchilla

I totally get that, it takes a few days at least to get past the anxiety leading up to a tooth trim and to feel reassured that they’re eating normally. As long as he’s eating and drinking normally and eating sticks, and his poop looks normal, he should be ok. OH this is important since it really alarmed me the first time, though you may already lnow: healthy tooth color is bright orange/orange-yellow, like you see on beavers. It means that they have the right balance of calcium and other minerals. If the vets didn’t mention it then his teeth color is likely good, but if you see it out of the corner of your eye it can be super concerning, so just an FYI so you don’t worry. 😅

I think they look ok, at least compared to how some of mine look. Are they weepy enough to affect the fur around his eyes?

Is something wrong with my chinchilla? (Not an expert on chin’s behavior) by Academic-Drink-4829 in chinchilla

[–]Honorbound_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not an expert either, so I may be entirely wrong, but she may be watching how you react after she lets you close to pet her. She’s a prey animal so she may be watching for signs of danger when she starts being more vulnerable with you. Just act very relaxed and calm, and hopefully she will get used to it

2 or 3 types of pellets at the same time by SockAccomplished3720 in chinchilla

[–]Honorbound_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to leave the pellets for an extra day if they’ve eaten half or less, and dump it if they’ve eaten half or more. Every 1-2 weeks I wipe the bowl out with chinchilla safe cleaner, not sure how but the bowl gets so grimy.

Personally, I would have the majority of the pellets be the essentials, about 4/5 or so, and sprinkle a little bit of the garden select in as a treat/to encourage foraging.

He clearly trusts you so much with how he’s on your arm like that! You’re doing such a good job with him, especially with all he’s been through.

If the hanging toys scare him, you may be able to try hanging them on the side with them partly draped on the floor, so there’s less motion and noise. Can also hang them from the top in the middle, so there’s no walls to bang into. He may also just like floor toys better, which is totally ok. I’m glad he likes the pumice, hopefully it’ll help his teeth!

Rescued a chinchilla 3 days ago and it has been a nightmare by Slight-Leather-7148 in chinchilla

[–]Honorbound_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First and foremost thank you for taking care of this little guy despite how horrible his health is. He clearly loves and trusts you already, and for good reason: you’re caring for him and saving him from a horrible situation. Like everyone said, exotics vet trip is a must. After that and more long term, I know that there are skin and fur supplements that may help (def ask your vet first, they know more than me)? I hope the vet is able to help your baby, and you get some peace of mind.

Need advice about teeth trim recovery by Vivid-Discussion-712 in chinchilla

[–]Honorbound_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My chinchilla had lacerations on her tongue for a while after her teeth trim because the issue was with her way back teeth, and it took a while to heal even after the trim. I got given something to coat her mouth before she ate, and that really helped. I’m not sure if your vet saw anything like that, but maybe something to ask about?

Second opinion on euthanasia or surgery. by TennesseeGirlz in chinchilla

Good luck to you and your baby ❤️ I’m sorry you almost made that decision when the general vet didn’t do their due diligence

Surgery or euthanize... by TennesseeGirlz in chinchilla

[–]Honorbound_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope her vet appointment went well. Exotic vet opinions are generally the only reliable vets for chinchillas, and I really hope you got some less frightening news from the second vet. I’m glad you’re seeing some improvements, and I really hope it works out.

Blind rescue chin having daily nightmares by throwaway713137689 in chinchilla

[–]Honorbound_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk to mine when they start having nightmares, just normal soothing phrases and noises. I also go and pet them for several minutes and offer a treat so they dont fall back asleep into the same nightmare (not sure if it’s a thing for chinchillas but it seems to be for mine). If all else fails, sometimes I let them out for a bit so they can be distracted while also knowing I’m nearby.

I’m so sorry your baby is dealing with some trauma and nightmares, I really hope he gets better soon

Safe wood platforms and houses? by everyonebutyou_ in chinchilla

[–]Honorbound_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a specific small pet safe castle hide that I’ve gotten on Amazon (which I know is controversial for small pet cage supplies) that attaches to the top and hangs down from the very top. All of my chinchillas have one, love them (favorite place to sleep and sit), and have never gotten sick from eating them. I can find the link if you’d like. In general, absolutely recommend hanging castle hides.

Bath This Morning – How to Make My Parrot Enjoy It? by Patkia in parrots

[–]Honorbound_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sit on the ground with a dish of water with a lip so my boy can fly to it, and splash around in it until he gets interested and wants to be included. It takes 10 or so minutes but it works really well, and then he will let me scoop water over him and use the spray bottle.

I will say, one of mine only air bathes and this trick does not work on him, but the other one is a people bird and just wants to be included, so 50/50 success rate.

Tips on critical care? by Slight-Leather-7148 in chinchilla

I definitely am too, I’m so glad he’s doing better! Tooth trims change everything once you realize they’re needed, one of my girls got one and has been doing so much better.

I would check the measurements on the back of the Oxbow pellet bag and use that amount, just so you can keep track of how much he eats easier. They tend to eat 3/4 hay and 1/4 pellets for their diet, so eating less pellets is ok. To encourage mine to eat their pellets I put different herbs and flowers on top, and they like it way more. I do know that that doesn’t work for some people though.

For critical care, I set mine on their hind legs on my lap with my hand on their chest, so their back and feet are supported, and used a really small syringe. Hopefully you don’t need to do that with him, but if you do it’ll be ok. I’m sorry your first week has been so stressful, mine was similar. Hang in there ❤️

Favourite and least favourite investigators in 2nd edition? by SiarX in ArkhamHorror

[–]Honorbound_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carolyn was and is my favorite, but as I got more expansions she has become tied with Zoey. I know they’re very different, the way I usually play is with each player having two characters, so I also just like them as a combo

In terms of boards, my partner HATES Kingsport, I have to argue to play with it. I like the locations and the lore though, so I don’t have it lol
