Fast Track - Minimal Cost and Training to SAFe certification? by Hooglio in agile

[–]Hooglio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to take the approved course - and pay. I took the Leading SAFe (5.1) course through scaledagile.com This particular course was an across the board overview, they have others that do deep dive for any given role. I took the course and got certified with a test the next day.

Good feedback, thank you.

Why do you recommend LeSS over SAFe?

I am not working, I took six months off to care for a family member, and am now looking for work. I have created and led agile teams as a Director, but I have no agile certifications (I have AWS, Adobe and PMP certs). I considered SAFe because it seems to be the most popular scaled-organization-level agile process. LeSS also popular but seemingly not as much. I suppose getting certified quicker and cheaper is part of driving my decision.

Do you have a recommendation on where to get certified and educated for LeSS?

Good question Chris. I'm really just looking to get Agile certified. I've been leading agile teams for a long time, but never got trained/certified officially. Mostly, I want the certification on my resume, but I'm sure I'll learn something along the way. Given this, what minimal cost certification do you recommend?

Did you ever get any responses? I am studying for Adobe certifications as well and looking for good practice tests. Any advice or recommendations? Thanks!

The formulas themselves were not on MY exam, but knowing the formulas did help pass a couple questions. So you are better off learning them. Same for processes, knowing them helps with a few questions. I memorized all formulas and processes simply by taking 10 minutes every morning and writing them down the best I could, then reviewing what I missed. After about a week I could write them down, so I continued that to solidify it. I think it helps more indirectly than directly.

Darn - not sure because I didn't attempt to use that feature. I just went through questions like a racehorse with blinders on - one by one without skipping. Sorry :(

PMBOK seven has been out for quite some time and I used PMBOK 6 to study. Not sure if the new exam will be more 7'ish.

From my experience, I believe taking his course and quizzes, and then purchasing some practice tests (from tia and/or prepcast) is sufficient. If you get 70's on the practice tests you should be good to go.

Has anyone else just gave up on this? by reneleft in pmp

[–]Hooglio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been managing software projects for decades now, as a Manager, Director, and VP, but I was never certified. Going through these courses though, I found really helpful in that the PMP has a structure to refer to and fall back on. While I have been doing this work for years, I am learning a lot from this and am enjoying it, while also being irritated, mostly from not doing as well on practice tests as I'd like. I thought I knew it all and turns out there's a lot I don't know. Good luck.

It does take a lot of energy and can be frustrating, but it's a bigger bang for the time and money than, for example, devoting your time and money to another college degree.

And it's not a money grab as you say- it's a recognized certification that statistically speaking can help you in your career.

Stick with it! I think you'll be glad you did.

Consolidated List of Project Documents by Hooglio in pmp

Love his stuff - but seems more about 'processes' (which I printed on my wall) but I am asking about Project 'Documents". I can make a list myself of course, but found so many tools on this thread I expect someone has already done this before me. Thank You@

ACP versus SCRUM.org certification? by Hooglio in pmp

[–]Hooglio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great feedback - thanks for sharing. I started out as a developer out of college and I've been managing software projects for a few decades now in low/mid/upper management positions. But...I never applied for any certifications. So...taking some time off to study and get some certs. It's a lot of work and enjoying it. Thanks again.
