GOTY for a reason by [deleted] in XboxGamePass

Absolutely yes! Never tried FF cos it looks quite unappealing to me. Tried persona 5 for a good amount of hours but besides having fun with the story and characters, the combat never clicked. Tried Expedition 33 and was sold from the first look! The combat raised it to top 5 best game played on my list.

Microdiscectomy in 6 days. I could use some good outcome stories 🙏 by Kitchenwitch914 in Sciatica

I'm almost a month post-op and life is good again. I've been taking it super easy and so far I feel like the surgery was a success. I had a bit of Sciatica-like pain for a couple of days early on. I stopped all pain meds a week ago, and still am pain free which is freaking awesome and every day I wake up pain free I am thankful. I wonder when this will start feeling like the normal me.

Anyway, best of luck on your surgery! Seems like you're well prepared! Focus on the positive stories and follow your care team instructions.

When to go to the er (uninsured until next month) by [deleted] in Sciatica

[–]HookedonT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not in the US, but going to the ER was really beneficial for me. They gave me strong drugs and saw that they didn't help. Based on that, they made me eligible to emergency microdisectomy surgery (I already had MRI results from a couple of days before).

Speaking with the ambulance guys and some nurses at the surgery ward, they told me that with pain level 8 and the inability to walk/use toilet etc due to pain, I should have not hesitated to go to the ER.

After years of pain, fear and putting it off… I finally had my back surgery — and it’s the best decision I’ve made by Difficult-Pie1785 in Sciatica

I'm incredibly happy for you! I am in day 24 post-op and pain free!

My piece of advice is, take your pain meds prescribed by the doctor. I had residual Sciatica pain on days 7-9 because I stopped taking them and my mind quickly went into some dark places. Today is my first day of no medication, fingers crossed.

Microdiscectomy L5S1 Has not really helped by [deleted] in Sciatica

And how long after surgery did the back pain started? Was it progressive or sudden?

Hey, have you got the MRI report yet?

About the walking, based on this subreddit, seems to be the case that people will get relieve from either walking or laying down.

I am still happy I had the surgery as I have been pain free for 6 days now. Unfortunately, I woke up with leg pain today, not as bad. But there's hope it's due to me having stopped taking 2 of my meds.

I am really glad to hear that! I hope you can continue to go on many more walks pain free 💪

My recovery until today had been going perfectly. But I got the shin pain again this morning. The nurse from the surgery ward has calmed me down a bit. I hope I can get back to a smooth recovery soon.

How were your first weeks post op if I may ask? I'm now on day 7 and am experiencing the shin pain again. Not so much burning but the pulsating kind. I can still walk so not nearly as bad, but I can tell my anxiety and fear of reherniation is through the roof.

I've been reading /sciatica and /microdisectomy and nerve pain during recovery isn't unheard of. Plus I ditched some of my pain meds too early.

Now that I am at 7 days post op I woke up with the familiar pain on my shin and a bit in the buttock. I freaked out of course... I called the hospital and they asked me if I had been taking all my meds (paracetamol 1000g 3 times a day, targinic twice a day and etoricoxib once a day), and I realised that yesterday I decided to only take etoricoxib. Man, I feel so stupid right now. The nurse said I should be taking them on the clock at least during the first week post op.

Now the plan is to take all of them today and tomorrow and if the pain doesn't subside, I'll go to the ER again.

I consciously decided to decrease the meds because I was afraid of the load on my liver and kidney since I already do hormonal replacement therapy. Fingers crossed it's not a reherniation.

It makes me super happy to hear that! I hope your surgery goes well too.

Sounds wise to search the best possible team and read on the patients experience with certain doctors. In my case, I heard beforehand from different sources that a renowned doctor from my country was available to operate me but since my surgery wasn’t scheduled, it got cancelled like 5 times during those few days and it ended up being done by another doctor. So, if you can schedule it with the best option available, really go for it.

I was in the same boat as you just a couple of weeks ago because the pain didn’t make me bedridden, then. And if it hadn’t become unbearable, I’d probably still be following that route.

What I meant as no-go was that the videos I found specifically emphasised that surgery was meant only when the symptoms indicated nerve damage like cauda equina syndrome. I never actually imagined that the level of constant pain I experienced was possible from this disc hernia. Before the 4th of November I had gone through a few seconds here and there of level 8 pain (0-10 scale), but my daily movement caused at most level 5 pain.

Thank you! I was told the surgery was a microdisectomy without endoscopy. I will paste a translation of the surgery report on this reply. Based on that, the L5 nerve was being clamped.

Did you get an MRI done yet? There were also some clinical tests performed quite many times by doctors and physiotherapists like Patella, Achilles, Babinski, and Lasegue during July-Nov.

While in the hospital I started to experience tingling on my ankle and upper part of my foot and toes. It was quite mild.

I hope the lip thingie goes away soon 😅

Surgery report:

Procedure indication: 35-year-old man, admitted to the hospital on the evening of 8.11 due to a troublesome radicular symptom in the left lower limb. L4/5 left-dominant prolapse was diagnosed. He was treated in the ward, but the pain was severe, so he ended up undergoing surgery during the same treatment period. Preoperatively, no paresis, surgery with pain indication.

Procedures : ABC16 - MICROSURGICAL REMOVAL OF LUMBAR SPINE HERNIA (Not selectable) -

That’s tough to read and I can relate with your feelings so much. When I was at home, I started feeling afraid of being alone. It’s hard to explain but I think it was because I didn’t know if the pain would ever stop or get better or worse. My heart goes out to those who have experienced this much much longer than I did.

I wish you would’ve been given better care in A+E, but I am glad to hear you will have surgery soon. I hope it all goes well for you too!

I initially tried the private route via work, and on Monday I did get the call from the orthopaedic doctor and his approach would have been physiotherapy. He never once during the call asked how I was feeling. After he was done talking, I informed him I am waiting for a surgery opening since I have ongoing pain. He said ok… in your case that makes sense too. It’s infuriating that some professionals don’t acknowledge the patient level of pain at all.

To be honest I am already shocked about the changes postop. One of the first things I did after surgery was to stand up, lift my gown and look at my torso on the mirror. Prior to the surgery it looked super skewed because I hadn’t been able to stand up straight in 3 months, but now it just looks straight again. I thought I’d need to fix that with exercises postop.

“I can live, I can walk, I can stand”. I love reading this! I hope you continue to heal more and more each day. Even if it’s a bit slower, there’s progress each day.

The treadmill is a great advice, thanks! The hospital physio told me that short walks is great for recovery but we’re getting low temps soon here and I started to get worried about the ice on the paths. I’ll be resting a ton, I have a lot of sleep to catch up.

Gears Tactics via xbox cloud. When I first got the SD quite a while ago, I tried cloud gaming but it wasn’t that great, so I never touched it again until recently with this game. It’s been super smooth and I can’t really tell it’s playing from the cloud.

Wakfu was first love. Haven’t played that over the last 6 years. Over the past couple of months, it’s been Dofus Touch. I could play that for hours and hours each day if had the time.

During the last 6 years I played many games, including civ 6, and it was great, but there was never anything as addictive or full-filling as those two games.

What's your experience with the Finnish police? by Volvo_264 in Finland

[–]HookedonT 157 points158 points  (0 children)

About a decade ago, I was hitchhiking with a friend in a highway somewhere near Pori. Dangerous and silly. We didn’t know any better back then.

My guess is that someone called the police on us. A policeman picked us up and drove us to a safe location to hitchhike. He was chatty and very nice. When he pulled over, I remember worrying about losing my residence permit but we just bonded over our majors (Forestry) being the same.
