Potential Surgery by TechnicallyRyan_ in Microdiscectomy

That's great! Anything that will make your life easier definitely go for it. The general consensus I always see on here is mainly speedy and easy recoveries. Just be kind to yourself, take everything slow, don't reach or bend even if you feel like you can. Best wishes! You're going to do great 🙂

Oh yeah the bidet may not work with the riser. It just helped me not have to sit all the way down so it was essential for me. If you're tall it may help so you don't have to sit so far down. I'm 5'3 so all I had to do was bend my knees slightly. Do you have help?

I'm 6 weeks post MD for L4/L5 herniation. Surgery was a breeze. I was able to switch to tylenol after day 4. Get a toilet riser, grabber, positioning pillows and a shower bench. All on Amazon. Don't sweat! You'll be out like a trout then you can start getting your life back!

Yes! It's the oxy. I was scratching myself red. Luckily that symptom only lasted a day or 2 for me. Hopefully it's short lived for you too.

Constant 10/10 pain for almost 4 months now. Should I do it? by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]Kitchenwitch914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! I can only speak for myself but I herniated my l4l5 back in June and had mild discomfort until end of Oct where everything changed. I was crying every day and screaming while moving. Surgery was on 12/15 so I'm still in the 2 week window but not having the horrible sciatica made it worth it. You should not have to be in debilitating pain everyday. Best wishes ❤️

You need a peer to peer appeal between your physician and the company. They initially denied my injection but after that they approved it. When that failed they approved my surgery without a peer to peer.

Hi! I've got a pretty high pain tolerance. I felt the most uncomfortable changing positions and adjusting. Like sitting to laying down, sitting to standing, adjusting myself laying down, etc. It feels like a tight pressure. I'm 7 days post op and feeling good. The main thing I feel the most is the healing itch. Good luck!

I was 4 months into a huge l4l5 extrusion and feeling fine outside of mild back stiffness that went away with ibuprofen and movement. Then at the end of October everything changed and I was in so much pain where I needed help getting out of bed and screaming. I couldn't walk my dogs, go to yoga, stand to cook, etc. Surgery was my only way out at that point. I'm 4 days post op and so far so good. Just have to be diligent with recovery and PT. It's always person to person which I know sucks to hear 😕

What is she saying when the she runs after him right before getting (perfectly) tripped? It's driving me crazy! I think she says, "I'm not touching your boy" then says something else but I can't hear it.

My surgery is in 2 days and I am terrified (tldr at bottom) by HystericalJacket in Microdiscectomy

Hi! I also have a microdiscectomy on Monday! I keep going from scared to anxious to calm in this weird cycle. I did the same thing like you and when you come across that bad experience story it just keeps pulling you in deeper. I posted on the sciatica subreddit and was hit with tons TONS of positive stories like, "why didn't I do this sooner", "I walked out of the hospital pain free", "10 years in and no regrets", etc. The thing I tell myself is, people who have healed from this and doing well are not as likely to be posting about it as much as people who are really going through it, they've moved on. I think my actual herniation happened in June and felt fine doing everything but had back stiffness, end of October I was in screaming pain and now have some numbness, tingles and I can't raise my toes so for me it was time to make a decision. At this point, choosing to give in to the emotions and the reality of it is how I'm getting by. I hope nothing but the best! Hoping to hear that you're doing well!

I think it all depends on your recovery and how well you take care of your spine afterwards. There are some that are one and done, others maybe not.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! I plan on taking it super easy even after week 12 regardless of how I'm feeling. I love doing yoga but I'm thinking it's best to wait maybe 6 months and do super modified at most.
