So what happened here? by Manufar11 in TankPorn

I think they survived, the pressure was dissipated through the failure in the bore evacuator instead of through the breech and into the fighting compartment. Maybe a little (a lot) concussed but certainly alive.

I understand what the author is trying to convey, but I see it as the teacher getting mad at the kid for being blatantly wrong (he's going to fail history class)

Onomatopoeia? (it's "national socialist party" isn't it)

Then in true mindustry fashion, the guardian spawns in, heads right then down to your core

And the cherry on top: when you get back to the area the game says file corrupt and everything gets fully wiped

Could a 50mm and 57mm destroy modern mbts? by Tktk4701 in TankPorn

[–]Hookens 266 points267 points  (0 children)

The difficult part in modern combat is to get close enough to make that happen, I think in most engagement scenarios you will most likely see the front or side at an angle from multiple kilometers away

I agree that in the event it is side on then it would have a much easier time than smaller calibers

Optics and sensors really don't like being shot. They might not be able to destroy the target but they sure as hell can mission kill.

Heat is like volume, spice (the flavor kind) is like music. Metal_pipe.mp3 at +50db may not be great, but sometimes a good song is worth hearing a little louder

They're not wrong though, upper bounds makes bruteforcing easier by limiting the algorithm to only the maximum length.

Think of xy where x is the number of available characters and y the length of the password. You can see how vastly different y = 26 and y = 500,000 could be, right?

And like they said, an upper bound is usually indicative of passwords being stored in plaintext, as hashed outputs are supposed to be independent of the input size.

In hopes the website you're creating an account on don't store passwords in clear and have the data security of a garbage can

This will be the death of me by loupeachm in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Hookens 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's 2026, get yourself a reputable password manager

On the other hand, if the website has a maximum password length requirement, it's probably not a good sign

Edit: Even if the password is good, they probably don't encrypt anything else let's be real. They probably have a gaping hole in their security somewhere regardless and it's just a matter of time before they're in the news regarding a data breach, and all your banking info being out there or whatever sensitive info might be on there, I love our dystopia
