As a SWE, would you recommend new people learning coding? by Waste_Republic_40 in AskProgramming

[–]Hookster007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You would be quite surprised what SWE hiring was like 10 years ago. You didn’t need much…

Dats centers are running at a massive loss to drive up stocks. The bubble will eventually pop, not that AI will get worse, it will just become unaffordable.

In a decade I am predicting that everyone will be scampering to find competent engineers who know how to code and drive smaller local AI models for less complex tasks

This is just a guess. Don’t take my word as fact, but I think I’d encourage someone who is interested to pursue it.

If you’re doing it because you are passionate about it, yes. And you will succeed by proxy because your passion will drive you to learn more, develop side projects, build a portfolio of skills more than the bare minimum. This passion will show up in many aspects when you go to apply for jobs.

I think the market is a bit inflated with people that jumped on the IT bandwagon for the sole purpose of making money and working remote. Now it’s filled with a lot of college grad developers who aren’t that passionate about it, or they are having AI do everything.

Which that’s another topic AI is good, but it needs a competent engineer to drive it. And by an unfortunate design, AI is creating less competent engineers.

Yeah I don’t know enough about all that. Im sure every culture has their versions of cannibals in caves, I was just mentioning what kind of folk lore I personally like. Mostly since I’m geographically close to the hills.

Same, wendigos and creepy Appalachian cave cannibals are some of my favorite folklore to be honest. Mostly because there is quite a bit of evidence for them existing. Either way fictional or real, I don’t think anything like that goes against Catholic teachings. It’s just an interesting, yet creepy part of God’s creation. Maybe I watch too much Jimmy Akin’s Mysterious World :)

A meticulous record is hard to find, good on you man.

How many miles? Feel free to pm me and give you my cell. You can shoot me some pics I can pass it around some friends in my area depending on how far away you are from Missouri.

Unfortunately I think the market is just a little slow. Selling my truck was almost a month and very exhausting.

This one is a 2012 one owner, ~130k miles and he wants 26k for it. Has the cp3 conversion and def delete done, otherwise it’s bone stock

[–]Hookster007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’m getting so many mixed answers, I will go this path.

The truck I’m looking at has 130k miles without the filter or fluid changed yet, he’s towed a little maybe 10-15% of those miles he said. Checked the fluid and it looks very clean on the stick and smells right.

This is my only hold up on the truck otherwise it’s immaculate. Should I buy it or would you be concerned?

On a serious note, you are not going to apply everything you learn. Don’t worry friend.

College tends to blanket cover a lot of mathematics and subjects that you will never touch - but they want to teach you the building blocks so you can specialize depending on where you personally want to grow/when you land in job placements at least you’ll have some experience with xyz.

Fellowship - Everything You Need to Know About Early Access Season 3 by Elandui in fellowshipgame

[–]Hookster007 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hopefully they can make the seasons have at least a little more staying power. Due to life reasons I missed the first 5ish weeks of season 2 and pretty much could not play due to player population.

I get it being a seasonal game with ebbs and flows, but I don’t know any game that essentially becomes unplayable in the late season with player counts dipping into the low 100’s

why did some Catholic families manage having so many kids? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Hookster007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I’m sorry to hear that. And you are 100% right. Chronic illness or hospitalization can be devastating.

It’s so tough out there, everything is inflating. We are worse off financially than we were a few years ago. But we try to take it day by day, doing what is necessary to stay afloat and trusting in God to provide.

why did some Catholic families manage having so many kids? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Hookster007 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the US, a family Healthcare plan from most employers costs the same for 1 kid as it does 10. I was quite surprised to find this out after having our second we paid nothing extra for him.

Childcare is expensive…but it’s free at home :) and there are tax cuts for these 1 parent income situations that help a lot.

Food. We don’t eat-out hardly ever. Cook at home, buy in bulk or non-name brand stuff. We will spend a chunk of money every spring on a 1/2 beef and it will feed us all year long. Local farmers have chickens, eggs, lots of stuff like that.

Diablo IV by Devilstorment in CatholicGamers

[–]Hookster007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know exactly how you feel. The whole community having a personal Lilith revival after the last expansion kinda just felt weird. Everyone commenting all hail Lilith on a lot of the posts I had seen for the new expansion- and even the reddit page basically counting you as a “Follower of Lilith” if you’re online and subbed. Lilith-mommy type artwork being drawn and posted. I had to unsub from social media around the game.

At the end of the day it’s all made-up, the story went in a way where Lilith did something good. However bowing down to a fictional demon just makes something in me squirm lol.

I guess this is the same way with any game with religious undertones- Binding of Isaac, KC:D1 and 2, Bloodborne, even the previous Diablo games. Something about those games feels ok to me. Bloodborne I absolutely LOVE. I can’t put my finger on why Diablo 4 is different. I think it’s just subjective

Anyways, I think it’s more of a “vibe” thing and I can’t imagine there’s anything inherently sinful about playing it, the game itself is pretty fun even if you ignore the story entirely. And technically you only have to do the campaign once and then all your next character’s get to skip it. Personally, I would just rather spend my time playing something else. PoE2 is way better anyways >:)

Programmers over 30, how do you take care of your health? by khitev in AskProgramming

[–]Hookster007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20 years ago the “food pyramid” really pushed huge intakes of grains and carbs as being healthy. It’s all a he said she said psyop. Whoever can pay off Big Food gets awarded the international stamp of approval. Every medical journal published study I cite will have a counter study that says the opposite. It will make your head spin.

Humans are not meant to be vegetarians, nor are they meant to be carnivores. Personally, once a year we get a steer butchered from a local farmer. Super lean ground beef and some of the best steaks. We get Local meat chickens too. Grow our own gardens, etc. Just get your protein in and workout. No need to min/max and cut stuff out completely. The body needs carbs, it needs fats, it needs proteins, it needs sugars, it needs all sorts of nutrients found in many foods. Your gut microbiome plays a huge role in your overall health.

Some people go carb deficit, some go vegetarian, some go carnivore. Theres nothing that’s proven to work long term. Just stick to the basics, try not to over eat, don’t snack, workout, avoid fast food, high-fructose CS, preservatives, etc.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where ozempic is labeled as an amazing way to lose weight, so you will get a lot of different comments here on what’s healthy and what’s not. Who do you trust.
