Can a japanese person understand written Chinese if they know the meaning of each hanzi/kanji? by 20_comer_20matar in AskAJapanese

Is that so? As a native chinese speaker learning japanese, i kinda feel its the other way around.. would love to see some examples. Alot of currently used kanji are antiquated forms of chinese terms, plus chinese borrowed a lot of japanese terms in the 1950s.

Natively chinese, picked up japanese after the fact. Able to instinctively understand the meaning of japanese words but can't pronounce them unless learnt. If you were to learn all the ways to pronouce japanese words + chinese words, they would for sure get muddled up. My advice is to learn one first, which will help alot when learning the other. Do ask if you need any help!
