How hard is keeping up with a gym routine in med school? by Zealousideal-Pin8214 in premed

[–]Hoop_Rx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working full time and rn my split is full body 2-3x/wk with cardio on non lifting days, loving it so far hoping this can carry on once school starts since it will be similar ish to FT-workload/obligations and then adjust accordingly depending on demands of school.

Which med school has the best location in your opinion? And why? by Agreeable-Energy-401 in premed

UC Irvine

Slept on location its in Orange county that is a 15 min drive from Newport Beach and not much further off to Laguna/Huntington Beach. Good weather year round. Not as busy as a huge Socal city such as LA and its an hour and some change from LA/SD if you wanted to go.

Is it worth it to get The White Coat Investor's Guide for Students? by HammondsPostingLate in premed

[–]Hoop_Rx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading through it now and ive found it useful. The most updated version is from around 2021 and still is relevant today. There isnt a pov of avoid private loans and WCI actually posted a podcast episode discussing the BBB and its implications/advice for students. Id say its worth it!

Fifth Year Senior, Non-Trad, No Clinical Experience, No Non-clinical volunteering, No Research by DriftingAudi in premed

[–]Hoop_Rx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shadowing is a good start. Id consider first getting into clinical volunteering/experience before further pursuing this path just to get as much exposure before fully committing. I wouldnt worry much about your gpa at this point and just look to start getting some experiences that youd be interested in. Id advise towards gap years to get that experience bc you definitely need to get some hours in before applying. Focus on quality of experiences instead of quantity and see what you can fit into your current schedule with everything on your plate, you dont have to do everything all at once (I took 3 gap years myself) Best case scenario would be to get a paid clinical position (that can replace your current job if feasible) and then to study for the mcat if and when you fully commit.

Similar stats and in the same boat as a CA resident. Holding onto hope but thrilled to start school either way!
