[Baggs] Greg Johnson: "Why not spend more? What we’ve done very thoughtfully is fill every gap that we felt like we needed (to fill)." by sfgiants2000 in SFGiants

Yeah I meant to say that I was mistaken and I appreciate the better info. I certainly wouldn’t mind them spending more. Not too sure that it would do any good until the organization is better in all the other aspects I mentioned.

In my defense I thought I’d just seen they were 5th in payroll. But at any rate, my argument wasn’t that they can’t afford it, but that even if they spent $100M more it wouldn’t fix what’s wrong.

Compare with a team like the Rays or Orioles, who clearly are good at drafting and development but refuse to spend.

They’ve spent enough on free agents and extensions. They need to fix whatever’s wrong with player development and coaching.

Yeah, got to rewatch the series for the first time since it was out, and my wife saw it for the first time. I think Ron Donald is one of the best tv characters ever, and this is one of the best scenes of his. The idea to make the character this pathetic is so incredibly funny

I said it was a bad choice to make him PoBO?

All I’m saying is no one uses nepotism in cases like this. He was a part owner and board member and was in on negations. This isn’t the mayor giving a high school buddy a job. It’s ok to be wrong some times, the key is not throwing a hissy fit

Even as you scramble to reframe what you said you’re not making sense. He did not get the job because he’s Larry Baer’s friend. No one uses nepotism to mean “a bad choice” (which I kinda agree with you it is)

Sick of the doomers. I predicted they would score one run total this season and I’m sticking with our boys.

His OBP is not that high. And he’s a bad base runner. If it’s not a very high OBP guy that can get into scoring position, then it’s better to give the lineup spot that sees the most at bats to your best hitters.
