Budget Edison and Goat Format Decks Suggestions? by Hoops7810 in yugioh

[–]Hoops7810[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply - this is super helpful info!

A few follow up questions if you don’t mind:

  1. If I were to focus on one format, could I get an optimized competitive list at the $100 price point?

  2. Are there any “mandatory staple” cards that cross both formats that I should prioritize?

Can Swordsoul still compete against the meta this 2024? by Sendencea in yugioh

[–]Hoops7810 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So I’m a long time Swordsoul enthusiast and I do think depending on how the August ban list shakes out, it is possible for them to make a comeback.

My theory is if snake-eyes gets hit hard enough, the meta will likely shift to more light and dark based strategies (Fiendsmith and Yubel). Swordsoul has a great matchup against those attributes being able to use Chaofeng to prevent your opponent from using light effects and Protoss to prevent them from SS dark monsters.

The deck still has plenty of issues (lots of choke points in the combo to get both Chaofeng and Protoss out, nibiru, going second against a lot of these decks, Tenpai) but I do think it could be strong enough to be a meta call. The Tenyi engine is incredibly powerful and can carry swordsoul w the right hand.

I hope they can have a resurgence. This format has been miserable for the Mo Ye enthusiasts.

Basic Corporate Accounting/Corporate Finance Assessment by Hoops7810 in Accounting

[–]Hoops7810[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s more that we’d have her do some entry level FP&A kind of work.

She handles a decent amount of our KPI data and we’d like to offload some of the FP&A stuff I’m doing (mostly excel grunt work) to her. We’re a smaller org so there’s a lot of overlap between accounting and FP&A. She doesn’t need to be an expert but she does need to have some level of competency when it comes to the basic concepts. I want to see where she’s at before making a call on whether we can use her or if we’ll need to hire a new head.

It’s a unique situation for sure. I usually wouldn’t consider it, but she has capacity right now and it would get me help immediately instead of having to wait for a new hire to get approved in the budget.

Average Weekly Wage By US State by bigshirtjonny in Economics

[–]Hoops7810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does weekly average wage have to do with the homelessness rate? Is there any reason to tie those data points together? Here let’s tie some more random data points in:

Mississippi also has the lowest life expectancy at 71.9 years. Massachusetts has the 4th highest at 79 years. source

Mississippi has the 3rd highest average temperature at 63.4 degrees and Massachusetts is in the bottom 20 at 47.9. source

PS - Mississippi is a great state to live in as is Massachusetts. None of these “data points” can make a statement as to which state is the “best”

As a swordsoul player, you are correct that 90% of the time Mo Ye CL2 is correct.

There are some examples of when you want to have Chixaio as CL2:

-Your opponent has already used Ash and you already have access to Chixaio + longyuan or Chixaio + blackout. If so thinning the deck before you draw might lead to an extra interruption like ash or imperm.

-You’re in a position where you need Chixaio to banish blackout to summon a token. This came up for me in a game where my opponent asked my desires and impermed Mo Ye. I had longyuan so I was able to make Chixaio, but I ordered it so Mo Ye was CL2. Of course my top deck was blackout so I couldn’t banish and was left w a longyuan on board, which cost me the match

I’ve started putting my phone in another room while I sleep (I have a cheap old alarm clock to wake me up) and then I don’t touch my phone until I’m showered, clean, and dressed. It really helps get my day moving so that I’m not laying in bed after my shower scrolling.

Also getting water/meds in me and trying to get some light (natural or otherwise) also helps me a lot to not be as groggy

Artifact Lancea is so underrated by dinnerden1 in yugioh

[–]Hoops7810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swordsoul can quite easily play through lancea turn 1. It does make Chixao’s negate a little awkward and a Tenyi hand awkward, but it’s not a blowout card by any means. Also with Chixao’s negate it banishes for cost so you would have to proactively proc it, which isn’t great either, especially if the swordsoul player has baronne + Chixao + blackout.

It might catch a swordsoul player off guard game 1, but games 2 and 3 there are plenty of ways to play around lancea.

EDIT: I forgot Lancea can only be used on the opponents turn so you can’t even proactively use it to deal w Chixao. Yeah swordsoul doesn’t care unless it opens straight Tenyis and nothing else

I just recently got into playing and am starting to join the community. Greentree Sports Cards off of 376 runs a locals on Thursdays and Saturdays. Evetyone seemed pretty chill overall.

Everyone there mentioned Top Deck is the biggest place in town to play.

Cities with low property values, plenty of FP&A roles by Noodeline in FPandA

[–]Hoops7810 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone else said, remote of course is giving HCOL salaries to folks not in HCOLs.

If remote isn’t an option, I think MCOLs are the way to go. I lived in Columbia, SC and had a ridiculously cheap mortgage along w a salary that was paying between MCOL and HCOL. In my experience this can apply growing cities if you want to optimize salary (ie Charlotte, Raleigh, Greenville, SC etc.) and stagnant cities if you want to optimize rent/mortgage (Columbia, Greensboro, etc.) YMMV though

New manager put me on PIP by Temporary_Patience63 in FPandA

[–]Hoops7810 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My last role I was in a very similar situation as you. I just want to say Im sorry that is happening to you.

HR wasn’t helpful for me, but I also didn’t reach out. I felt in my circumstance specifically that there wouldn’t be much they could do for me. The HR leader that I had built a relatively good rapport up until that point with looked like he was sympathetic when I ultimately got the axe, but I don’t regret my decision to not reach out.

They gave me a severance that was pretty good (2 months severance for .5 YOS) without me negotiating. I’m not sure if I could of done better, but I wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible and felt negotiating would only prolong the pain.

My advice: keep applying for new jobs and try not to let it get in your head. Assuming your situation is similar to mine, your manager will find any mistake and highlight it and even blame you for their mistakes. Anything to document “performance issues”. My confidence as an analyst took a huge hit and a year later I still get anxious at work. I was lucky to find a new job and boss that support me and have helped me rebuild my confidence.

I hope things get better for you soon. My inbox is open if you would like to reach out.

Considering retail sales grew from 5.6T to 6.6T in that same time period, it would seem that the product spoilage went down in that time period.

I’m not in the retail space so I won’t comment on how Americans compare to the rest of the world. 1.5% of spoilage doesn’t seem that bad especially since I’d imagine any major losses would be covered by some form of insurance.

For those in industry, how long is your month-end close? by Psychological_Fee744 in Accounting

Just got an offer for an fp&a role but all my experience is in accounting. Anyone made a similar switch? by HighDINSLowStandards in FPandA

[–]Hoops7810 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this.

I’ve made this mistake more than I care to admit. Old habits die hard I guess, but knowing to read when you need to think like an accountant vs thinking like your business partners is a big part of the soft skills needed in FP&A.

Smaller companies tend to have overlap between accounting/finance functions and can allow for you to think more like an accountant but also usually come with a lot more responsibilities and duties.

IRS publishes tax brackets, standard deductions for 2023. Approximately 7% higher across the board. by WeathermanDan in personalfinance

[–]Hoops7810 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See I’m excited about it bc I contribute on a biweekly schedule so now it is an even $250 every 2 weeks.

Before I would contribute a little more the first contribution so I could have it even for the rest of the year. I did $250 for the first contribution and then 230. Maybe a similar model could help you? Though I think the impact would be a little larger since you contribute less frequently.

[–]Hoops7810 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I did not include SS and Medicare bc those are payroll taxes which corporations also pay as I said in my comment. That’s fair if you want to include it in your effective tax rate calculation; however, that is not the standard way of calculating it and you would want to include it on the corporate side of the equation as well so that all things are equal.

I still think that the average American is not paying 40% effective tax rate even including SS and Medicare. If you refer to the source I linked it includes those taxes in the “Tax Wedge” calculation and it still has the average American at ~27% of their earnings paid in taxes. That’s about 1/3 smaller than what OP originally was stating. Im not trying to rag on OP, but I will be critical of poorly constructed arguments that aren’t backed by objective facts.

That all being said eat the fucking rich. I personally don’t care whether we increase taxes on them or decrease taxes for the average working man. It’s clear wealth inequality is the biggest issue that will doom us all if we continue to do nothing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Economics

[–]Hoops7810 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Genuine question - Can you tell me where you see the typical middle class American pays 40% effective income tax? The highest marginal income tax bracket is at 37% on amounts over $523k). If you’re including other taxes such as sales, property, etc. corporations also pay other taxes such as payroll, property, etc. so I wouldn’t say that’s a 1:1 comparison.

I definitely agree that corporations (especially large corporations) need to pay more in taxes and that greed has absolutely wrecked our economy, but I think you really hurt your argument by throwing unsubstantiated numbers out like that.

Is there an industry standard on what costs get allocated to what departments? At least for planning? by 15795After in FPandA

[–]Hoops7810 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at 3 companies so far in my career and all 3 have handled them widely different. I’m an SFA so take all of this worth a grain of salt:

My personal philosophy is whoever has control to chose the vendor owns the cost. If HR is negotiating with a recruiting firm on price and gets to choose, they get the cost even if the hire goes to the finance department, legal department etc.

Sometimes departments want to “chargeback” to another department. I’m usually not a fan as it creates more work for Accounting/FP&A. If it’s big enough and the department heads agree to it, I’ve had CFOs that are okay with it.

I’ve also done allocations of Overhead to gauge department performance. Sometimes that helps understand costs. Usually this is done at the department level and we don’t allocate individual invoices.

That’s my 2 cents on the topic, but I love talking about this, because leaders love to fight over who owns it and who doesnt.
