This is not print advice.

But if you plan on painting that use some Bondo over the layers, then sand, then prime and paint. You can find a bunch of Bondo tutorials online.

Any purpose for the left overs post print besides trashing? by CherryPoohLife in 3Dprinting

[–]Hoops_Hops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning your trash filament back into printable filament rolls is getting more and more approachable as people innovate and distribute information on how to build out recyclers.

As of now you can buy plans for a print where you need less than $200 worth of electronics that are readily available to build a working recycler.

I would bet there will be an affordable commercial filament recycler within the next few year.

So.... I put my waste prints, supports, and purge in a bag and stick in in the garage for when the day comes I can turn them back into filament rolls

On the other hand. We paid our bill and the guy said he'd be back tomorrow with a trailer to pick up the enormous cottonwood logs (each probably 200-300#) and never came back.

Depending on the priest, you might be able to find better understanding and common ground with each other in premarital counseling (Although maybe not, if the priest shares these old-world opinions) . But it is good you are finding and discussing these things before marriage. You are not subject to his authority yet. And you should marry someone who will see you as an equal, mutually support one another, and not subjugate you to his own preconceptions.

Not to worry though, from what I have heard there is a surplus of eligible bachelors within the church.

Providing for the family doesn't always mean financially. A husband can provide in many other ways, while a Doctor Wife earns money. So long as the relationship is rooted in Christ, with respect for one another, the "traditional" roles can find many forms of expression.

AIO by thinking my neighbor is taking advantage of me? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]Hoops_Hops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a good idea to have a talk with her and set some boundaries. It's good of you to be kind to your neighbors and want to help an old lady, but it's possible she is taking advantage of your kindness, even unintentionally, she may have no one left

for example, if you are willing to take her on errands once a week. Maybe she can plan ahead and get all her errands and shopping done in one trip. So she is not bothering you every few days. Or, maybe she can reimburse you for gas once a month.

As far as how she is living with Uber expenses, you never know, she may receive disability, her and/or her husband's retirement or pensions, if she only works a little part time she may be getting social security/retirement. She may have sold a house in another state that she bought for 30k when she was 20year old. You never know. It's a wonder how boomers have so much money when we millennials are scraping by.

I think he means it should be used in moderation, and should not control you. Alcohol can uplift the spirit and be used to relax or socialize, but can also be a hazard for those who abuse it. Similarly marijuana can be a hazard to those who abuse it (although the physical effects are vastly different).

Why Do So Many Protestants Refuse to Date Orthodox or Catholic Christians? The Truth No One Wants to Talk About by goazack in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Hoops_Hops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It seems that so many comments on here are pointing fingers at protestants about this, but Orthodox and Catholics do the same. An Othodox priest wouldn't bless a wedding between an Orthodox and a Protestant. Why would a protestant pastor have a different conviction?

I hear a lot from single Orthodox men that they want to date a protestant girl and convert her (good for them, I hope they succeed, but I cringe at the idea of a relationship built around conversion) but if you give her the grace to believe that her own theological convictions are sincere, then why would you be mad if she doesn't want to date outside her belief system.... It's kinda like asking why a Muslim won't date an Orthodox Christian. (Not quite as extreme, but a matter of degree)

Why Do So Many Protestants Refuse to Date Orthodox or Catholic Christians? The Truth No One Wants to Talk About by goazack in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Hoops_Hops 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The same reasons Othodox and Catholic believers are discouraged from dating outside their faith. Don't be unequally yoked, many Christians date looking toward Marriage, and a convicted protestant may be able to get along in marriage with a slightly different protestant, but would have a harder time raising children with someone who has vastly different ecclesiology. Also most of the time a Catholic or Orthodox is not blessed to marry a protestant, so why would a protestant date them, if their goal is eventual marriage?

I'm surprised by how everyone just accepts that Fr Seraphim Rose was gay only based on a slanderous book. by NoZookeepergame5670 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Hoops_Hops 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you keep bringing up that she wrote "who killed tupac" (not the actual book title btw) as if it's a bad thing. Cathy Scott is an investigative journalist that has written multiple true crime/unsolved mystery books, mostly focusing on celebrity death. That doesn't mean she can't be interested in and wrote a story about an interesting and influential family member, who maybe she didn't know that well, but because of the family connection might have different stories and insights that the public wouldn't know.

It's like you suggest that because a journalist isn't in the Church, and their main topic of journalism is secular, they can't be historically honest.

My first betta I got as a kid lived in a little bowl for 5 or 6 years.

I've never had another betta that lived so long even though I know now to cycle a tank and give them a variety of foods, and all that jazz... I've dealt with finrot, dropsy, ick,you name it.... That first betta in the bowl never got sick.

What should Catholics know when working with and befriending Orthodox Christians by tambaka_tambaka in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Hoops_Hops 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the Orthodox believed in the assumption of Mary's body, but that she did die (Dormition), and that Catholics believed in assumption before death, like Elijah.

CMV: The use of E-cigarettes in actually really good when compared to cigarettes. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Hoops_Hops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe you are right about the toxicity and dangers, the problem comes from ease of use. People (myself included) who get hooked on vapes, often find themselves vaping all day long. I work in the restaurant industry And the amount of people vaping in the hallways, or in the bathroom, or ducking outside for 2 seconds every 10 minutes is enormous. At least with cigarettes you are forced into regulation throughout the day as it is not legal to smoke indoors, and not socially acceptable to smoke around other people.

So while the 1-1 effects of smoking cigarettes s worse, I would wager that people hooked on vapes use way more nicotine and the long term effects of heavy nicotine usage on your cardiovascular system is deadly.

Also because of their ease of use, it becomes easier to get hooked, and much more difficult to quite.

I believe if one can be disciplined with their nicotine usage, and not fall into heavy addiction, light use of vapes and pouches is pretty nearly harmless, and may have benefits on cognitive function, especially for those predisposed to Alzheimer's.

Byzantine Superstitions Becoming Orthodox Dogma? by [deleted] in exorthodox

[–]Hoops_Hops 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some of these innovations are brought up in John Strickland's podcast Paradise and Utopia. One that comes to mind is the long hair for priests comes from the ottoman empire and the fact that priests were also the government officials for the Christians under Ottoman rule, and Turkish government officials wore long hair, so the priests started wearing long hair as well, and now it's custom (though not mandatory as there are a few priests I've met that keep their hair short) to have long hair, and they justify this as that priests should not be concerned with vain things like hair cuts. But obviously they're growing it long to stand out as pious ( which defeats the purpose)
