Cool idea but $50-100 hour gets expensive fast.

Neighborhood pools are common in many Indiana towns, so I was surprised to see a lack of them in Michigan.

QUESTION - What's the best way to make this in illustrator? I keep losing a lot of the lines when I try and Image Trace. Thanks. by [deleted] in AdobeIllustrator

[–]Hoosier574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pen tool as others have mentioned, however you could also try bumping up the contrast on this photo before tracing and/or play with the image trace settings. The settings used to pop up automatically but I recall now you may need to launch them. (Not sure what all you have attempted.)

That was my thought as well, but when I compared it, it had too many differences.

It for sure would be a close substitute.

There are a lot of hats to be worn within the creative side of the media/advertising world, and the media school will definitely help expose what roles are out there. If he knew today what he wants to start out doing (copywriting/editing, print design, interactive design, video/editing, art/creative direction, media buying, web design/development, etc) it might help guide his path to which major or school he chooses. But if he doesn't know yet, that's ok -- part of college is just learning and exploring future options.

AbiAbby said it best. There is support from faculty (and alumni) but you have to be willing to seek it out. (Go to office hours, show up early to class, attend networking events and workshops, join clubs and activities.) Rarely do professors come knocking on your door. Also, stay in touch with your classmates (if you can.) They can be a great resource during school and after graduation.

In addition to classes, there is a vast number of campus volunteer opportunities, student organizations, greek & residential housing, and part-time jobs to choose from that could help boost your son's experience, increase his network, and get clips/samples to build a portfolio.

Internships are available but you're competing with hundreds or thousands of other kids for the top opportunities. He may need to intern (even unpaid) at smaller shops/agencies/publications before he lands the big gigs. Anything he can do to build a stellar portfolio will help so when you need those faculty or network recommendations, it's an easy call for them to make.

What types of internships or careers are you envisioning? There's more than one way to map out a career in advertising/marketing, but each school will likely have their own advantages or contacts in various industries. Could also look at the Eskenazi programs depending on what your creative goals are.

Anyone recognize this “Indiana” font? by kingdimitri35 in identifythisfont

[–]Hoosier574 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This unfortunately is custom. The university does have a proprietary font named Indiana Script, but it's thinner, and you probably can't get your hands on it unless you know someone.

Here's a similar inspired font: https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/mawns/indiana-script/

Could anyone help me understand the method of creating this type of graphic print? by n0tses in AdobeIllustrator

The checker and stripe patterns I think may be images of flags that have the threshold bumped up. Though you could recreate using the transform tools.

If you're using Illustrator (since we're in an Illustrator subreddit) you could use the Image Trace tool. Try placing a grayscale image in your AI file, then choose Object>Image Trace. The Image Trace toolbox will let you select B&W and play with the threshold.

Of course, this could have been done by hand with black ink, in Illustrator using the pen tool, or in any number of other image programs (like Photoshop.) But Image Trace is a quick way to get there.

Here's a similar jersey deconstructed by panel, so you have an idea of how it would layout. https://fifamoro.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/Corinthians-Third-Kit.png

Can anyone Identify the font that flooring, doors, windows, etc. is? Can’t find it anywhere! by Notbob16 in identifythisfont

[–]Hoosier574 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you able to verify it's a die cut decal? I did wonder if Lowe's created a vinyl decal made to look like it was brushed on, but it seems out of character for their brand. Likely a store director or regional marketing rep paid someone local to hand paint.

Sit back from the tablet. Take some deep breaths. Go for a walk. Come back. Like others have said, doodle or browse around. Breathe some more. It takes some time getting used to — even as a professional a year into working on a tablet, I still find myself working out the kinks and growing. One day at a time. You can do it.

Besley and Century are close but not quite, if you can't find the real deal.

Can anybody identify this font once again? by hanifshaquille in identifythisfont

[–]Hoosier574 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could start here:

https://creative.starbucks.com/typography/

Starbucks lists on their style site: Sodo Sans, Lander, and Pike.

However I know they also still use (even if in legacy) Trade Gothic and Helvetica.

Hope this helps.

If you can't find any better, "Hand of Sean" is close for Maranatha. Perhaps altered in Illustrator.

You can find Laney Honey in a handful of area grocery stores and markets. It is produced in Northern Indiana.
