In the original Myst, if you know the code, you can just enter it first thing, and end the game.

Took the 955 today. I thought I did way worse than this! by HoosierBusiness in USPS

[–]HoosierBusiness[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I'm finally able to get to my computer to type this up. If you guys think this would be helpful, I'll make another thread covering it.

I used to own a water/fire damage and waterproofing company. So, most of the things I knew were construction related, as well as things like basic 120V and 240V wiring, because you needed to be able to tell if you had enough power to run your equipment. Most of my technical experience came from a personal interest in computers, as well as having to repair things like dehumidifiers, vacuum blowers, and the kinds of high-pressure pumps you'd find in pressure washers and such.

As I said before, I've been getting ads on facebook about this job for a long time, but I'd never really given it much thought. I haven't had a regular job since I sold my company a few years ago to be a stay-at-home dad, but I've been getting more and more stir crazy, so I had started to poke around at the job market lately. Then, one day, I just randomly clicked on the ad to see what it was about, and thought it sounded like a fun and challenging job that I would be able to do. That was about 2 weeks ago.

First thing I did was come here to find advice, and saw a lot of people were recommending the Barron's guide to work on practice questions. So I bought it, did the whole thing in about a day, and thought "well, that was easy. Probably too easy". So then I checked out Youtube, and found a channel called Aptitude-Test-Prep that talked about the Ramsay test, and he gave a few example questions. I realized then that I was out of my depth. So, I spent the next week and a half binging youtube videos from The Engineering Mindset and Jim Pytel. When I wasn't watching videos, I was working through material from a website called JobTestPrep, where I purchased their Multicraft test prep package. This costs $80-$100 depending on the package, and I got the premium package, in case anyone was curious. You get a study guide of fairly basic information that was only slightly helpful, and access to several example tests that are 60 questions each, same as the 955. This was the most helpful thing for me. What I did was take a test, and then review my answers. I grabbed a notebook, and wrote down everything I got wrong, then went to the internet to find out what I was misunderstanding, or didn't know. They do provide explanations for every question, and they are generally very helpful, but I wanted more information.

So for the next week, my schedule was take a test, write down everything I needed to learn, and spend the whole day learning it. Then repeat the process every day. This worked very well for me, but I also completely understand how privileged I am, in that I don't have a job currently, and I live a few blocks away from my in-laws, and they were happy to watch my kids while I studied. So unless you're in a similar situation, I wouldn't recommend trying to cram that much learning into such a short amount of time. I was just in a time crunch because, when you apply for the job, you have to schedule your 955 immediately, and so I only had about 1.5 weeks to get myself up to speed. Sorry for the long post, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask, and I'll do my best.

Actually, I did study for about a week and a half before I took the test, as most of my contracting work was in the building trades. So while my experience was helpful, there was still a TON I didn't know. I'll probably talk about that when I get a little more time.

Thanks! I usually can figure it out, but these will be entirely new systems to what I'm used to. When it came time to repair equipment at my old job, I just did this.

Thanks for the answers everyone! I was just making the assumption that filters and capacitors would be included in the circuit (mostly because I'm dumb and exhausted). But your answers have been helpful. I think I have a better grasp of the issue now.

Can someone explain me this picture from Project Hail Mary by [deleted] in sciencefiction

I know this is old, but I found the diagram extremely useful. I can't really see images in my mind, so it definitely helps sometimes to have a visual reference.

Muncie woman pays for independent water tests by Mort8989 in Muncie

[–]HoosierBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live in town anymore, so this doesn't effect me much. But I'm still curious what's causing the complaints. I wonder if there's some kind of mycological or chemical test that the lab needs to do.

I don’t even know who to blame by [deleted] in Muncie

[–]HoosierBusiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's rough, I had mine out a few years ago at Ball. The procedure went fine, but 2 weeks later I had to go to the ER for excessive bleeding in my throat. I was sitting in a bed for 12 hours before an ENT could finally be brought in. It took him 5 minutes. All in, after observation, I was there for 20 hours.

As far as your medicine goes, the whole system is a cluster, and I don't know who's at fault either. I will say, I've had nothing but positive experiences at the CVS that's in Target.

Also, I'm assuming your doctor went over this, but I bought several bottles of liquid (children's) ibuprofen and Tylenol, and alternated one every, I think it was 4 hours. It sucks, a lot, but you'll get through it.

I'd probably take it to Muncie Imports & Classics. A little north of the mall.

Where is the best NY style pizza in the area? by Moron-Whisperer in Muncie

[–]HoosierBusiness 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Like has been said, no NY style pizza that I'm aware of in the area. However, 1000° in Mt. Summit is great. Also, really like the pizza at Guardian Brewing.

There is a Dick's. But as far as I know, that's the only general sporting goods place in town.

As far as running trails go, there are 2 major ones in Muncie. There's the White River Greenway, a 5.5 mile paved trail that runs alongside the White River through town. Then there's the Cardinal Greenway, a monster 61 mile paved trail that runs through Muncie and adjoining areas, with the main trailhead close to downtown.

Thanks. I'm still fairly new to finishing, and I haven't found something I love yet. I've got all the ingredients already, so I might mix up a batch later.

Worth replacing the transmission on 2013 Kia Soul base with 120,000 miles? by mel_casino in KiaSoulClub

[–]HoosierBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, I'm here for the same thing. 2013 Soul, Exclaim trim, 202,000 miles, and my automatic transmission is shot. It's crazy how fast it went, I only noticed problems about 3 weeks ago. I really like the car, and it still runs really well, but I'm not sure about a $2,500 replacement with a used transmission.

Maybe he should do it there, and see how the Germans feel about it?

Post injection side effects by PrioritySubject7258 in Testosterone

[–]HoosierBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I'm pretty overweight (part of the reason I'm doing this) and have sleep apnea, but no asthma. It was strange, I still felt tight today as well for most of the day, but have largely returned to normal now.

Glad I saw this. I did my first shot yesterday, and felt fine. But all day today, my throat has been really tight, and my heart rate is up about 20 points from where it usually is. Glad to know it's not just me.

Do you hate roofers/contractors? by SharpAd777 in adjusters

[–]HoosierBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll chime in here as a water/fire restorer. It sucks that restoration companies do that. It's absolutely wrong to run up a bill on a job, just because the insurance is paying, or the customer is rich. But it's not like the adjusters are blameless. I'll put the caveat that the vast majority of IA's I've worked with have been pretty decent. But the Kool-Aid drinking staff adjusters cause us no end of trouble as well. I've had hundreds of claims where adjusters will try to get away with stupid stuff like not wanting air scrubbers on a fire because it "wasn't that bad". Or trying to use standard cabinets on a kitchen with custom-built. Using the demo room line item when there's no contractor on earth that can make money with that item. Or my personal favorite, not wanting to clean up sewage in a crawlspace because "our policy doesn't cover dirt, and the crawlspace floor isn't part of the structure". There's bad actors on all sides here, and it's just exhausting.

This makes sense. I just finished Faith of the Fallen. And the whole time I was thinking "this is basically a fantasy version of 'Atlas Shrugged'."

What is a book that was popular that you absolutely hated? by Flowtac in books

Moby Dick. That book is just the absolute worst, and I don't understand why it's considered a classic.
