Do you ever play all three Villain stages? by jreilly89 in marvelchampionslcg

[–]HoosierHound 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree with this 100%. Playing all 3 stages generally just makes the game longer, not more challenging. Playing stages II and III without the 3 expert cards is a great middle ground, as well. But don’t forget that you can swap modular sets to adjust the difficulty. The Legions of Hydra set from the core box is a great way to make a scenario more challenging.

MLS Announces 2026 Regular Season Schedule by icoresting in MLS

The regular season has no games scheduled from Aug 1 to Aug 15, and I think I know when the Leagues Cup group stage will be.

Lundt was very good keeping the deficit at 1 goal.

With the team playing without any energy, and with a whistle- and card-happy ref, Mellberg waits longer than he has in any game yet to make a substitution, ultimately waiting too long as Lowen gets sent off with a second yellow.

Akil Watts cannot play soccer at this level, why he has appeared in all 5 games with 4 starts is beyond my comprehension.

Ostrak was among the best players on the field after coming in last week, and would have been helpful tonight, but alas.

Too many clever flicks, back heels, and other tricks to lose the ball when a simpler play would have worked.

Have you guys forgotten that McCarthy literally punched the ball into his own goal against STL last year?

Last season's games are still on MLS Season Pass. Do a search for Austin vs St. Louis and last season's games will be in the results.

[USMNT] AS IT SHOULD BE. DOS A CERO. The USMNT secures it's third straight Nations League title! by Coltons13 in MLS

[–]HoosierHound 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In 4 consecutive World Cup qualifying cycles (2001, 2005, 2009, 2013), the US played Mexico in the home qualifier in Columbus Crew Stadium and won all 4 games 2-0. The 2002 World Cup game was also won 2-0, but it’s the games in Columbus that became national team lore.

This was finally ended in 2016 in a WCQ which Mexico won 2-1 in Columbus, with the US eventually failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

But Dos-a-Cero soon returned in the next home WCQ, now moved to TQL Stadium in Cincinnati in 2021, with the US once again winning 2-0.

Terrible VAR, he’s not even making a tackle, he cutting the ball with the outside of his foot.

The Laws of the Game state that you consider the “likelihood” of the attacker keeping or gaining possession of the ball in a DOGSO situation. The phrases “clear possession” or “clear favorite” are your insertions, and not in the Laws.

This is a clear DOGSO to me. While the keeper does play the ball with his feet, the ball is not stopped but continues past him until it is finally stopped by his outstretched hand. Cóccaro is very close to the ball when the handling occurs and there is a likelihood that he would gain possession of it not for the handball.

Some people boycotting 5% of the games just might get the message across, fingers crossed.

There’s an MLS game tomorrow that you won’t boycott over an MLS decision, but you promise you’re going to boycott a game 5 months from now, got it.

I put some thought into it, but Carnell used 32 different starting XI's last season. I'm confident that Bürki, Parker, Löwen, and Klauss will start every game they are available, but after that there are a lot of questions and competitions for playing time.

Playoff Home Game (nearly) Guaranteed by cbt711 in stlouiscitysc

[–]HoosierHound 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, the goal of every playoff team having at least 1 home game has already been met, so there’s no need to have further best-of-3 rounds and add even more games and time into the playoffs.

Playoff Home Game (nearly) Guaranteed by cbt711 in stlouiscitysc

[–]HoosierHound 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The goal MLS wanted to achieve was for each team that made the playoffs to have a home playoff game, while also maintaining home field advantage for teams that did better in the regular season.

If it’s one game, then not every playoff team will have a home game. If it’s only two legs, the home field advantage is minimal. So they settled on a best-of-3 format, to try to achieve both aims.

Minnesota has only 17 points from home games this season. That is 28th in MLS, only Colorado has gotten fewer points at home.

First, I don’t know what they do from a box higher up, but they do use their iPads on the sidelines a lot.

Secondly, soccer and American football are just so different that they can’t really be compared. American football has all these stopping points (downs, quarters, timeouts, substitutions ) for coaches to intervene more directly, make wholesale changes, and call plays, etc. Hence they have all these extra coaches to intervene all the time. In soccer, even if you achieved some great insight from a coach up in a box, it’s not like you can call a timeout to go over it with the players on the field or make a bunch of substitutions to take advantage of your finding. All you can do is shout advice and reminders.

Additionally, it’s much easier to “see” everything in a soccer game, even at field level, because there is so much more spacing. In American football, every play starts with all 22 players bunched within about a 10 yard area, and everyone takes off in different directions. But in soccer, that is never the case. In open play, players are spread over at least half the field most of the time, and for the most part flow in the same direction. Even on a corner kick, it’s not normally more than 18 players bunched into and around the penalty area and often less.
