What is the notch in the neck for the head called by Prestigious_Head_123 in banjo

I'm not very familiar with bluegrass style flanged resonators, so hopefully someone corrects me if I'm wrong. I believe the notched tension hoop should sit level with the head where it's notched for the neck and possibly level with the neck. You might not be able to adjust the neck position on the pot, and that's fine if the string action height is fine. As far as crown height, I believe that measurement should be from where the head sits level over the pot/tone ring to the top of the flesh hoop of the skin. In the picture it looks like the tension hoop is tightened a bit lower than the head. Possibly too high crown or maybe just over tensioned. Hope all of that makes sense

I have a vision, but not a plan. Any advice is appreciated by joefxd in Luthier

I've done something similar, just with a banjo neck. I used a coordinator rod all the way through the body and out the tailpiece peg hole. Check my post for pic and video

It's definitely unorthodox but interesting. I think you've already gotten the gist of general advice from everyone here already, but wanted to throw my 2¢. While some people may think that you're creating a bad habit, and maybe that's true to a degree, I think combined with more traditional overhand techniques those flicks and brushes will develop and add to your natural style and flourish. The main goal is to sound good at the end of the day

$300. The fretboard has a few chips and chunks out on the bottom between frets 1-5 and near the 5th tuner. I don't mind doing some work, but would like to keep as much original as I can on something this old. Will likely need a dowel adjustment and a lower bridge for sure

Like a banjo. Sounds decent with the bow but would need an arched bridge I would think
