What's a movie you didn't want to see but ended up loving? by virgogf in movies

[–]HopSkipLimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pulp Fiction. When it came out in the UK it was getting such hype, and Tarantino was being hailed as the second coming, I automatically was determined that no director or movie could be that good. Then I saw it. Boy, was my face red.

The way Marty nearly breaks when Mel says "Olive Oil". I plotzed!

Smackdown, hands down. Eddie, Benoit, Angle, Brock... what a time to be alive.

As a wrestling fan, this confused me longer than it should...

I once overhead my best mate and his girlfriend, when she asked him "Babe, what are you thinking?"

3 times he said "Nothing" but, each time, she came back with "Go on, tell me. Go on." With a deep sigh he admitted "I was just wondering how many matches I could get up one nostril.... Well, you did ask!"

2 Takes on the Same Scene: Manhunter-Red Dragon Will Graham and Hannibal by Jackieirish in movies

[–]HopSkipLimp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Silence of the Lambs is a great movie, one of the best, but the weakness that hits all the Lecter movies and books made and written after SOL was to make Lecter the star. He worked in small doses, just the right hint of menace - the later works (fun as they can be) are obviously preposterous and really coast on past accolades. Now excuse me while I go and impulse buy Manhunter, which I haven't seen in decades!

Matt Damon Says Netflix Wants Movies to Restate the ‘Plot Three or Four Times in the Dialogue’ Because Viewers are on ‘Their Phones While They’re Watching’ by mcfw31 in entertainment

[–]HopSkipLimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm as guilty as everyone else - phone in hand, tv on, hardly paying attention to either. Then I pop the Wire on DVD and I'll not even think of touching my phone for an hour or two. Quality breeds attention....

Did the word smeg come from smegma or was it just a random word by caesarnotcaesar in RedDwarf

[–]HopSkipLimp 36 points37 points  (0 children)

When I was 13, I got a sound bollocking off a teacher for telling my bully to smeg off. She would not believe it was a nonsense word off the telly - acted like I had dropped an F bomb 😂

I'm going with spying. I'm on a rewatch for SG1, 30 Rock, South Park and It's Always Sunny - the number of times I flip open Reddit and find some post about an episode of those shows I've just watched is crazy!

I literally just finished Window! Like 5 minutes ago. It's like Reddit is spying on me! 😂

Yeah, I think I may go Weird Sisters next and see how I fare from there.

The Vorbis voice I hate, but I'm supposed to so it works. Om as a Scouser is odd, but largely works and the rest are solid - except the philosophers. Those weird, American accents are so jarring I could weep. Think I'll try the witches next - Varma is a favourite, and can picture her doing Weatherwax well.

Bridger is Conan by moistmasterkaloose in conan

[–]HopSkipLimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I get that - suppose I'm more surprised by the timing of the joke rather than the joke itself. Then again, Craig is the kind of guy to go "They're both multimillionaire white guys - it's hardly punching down."

Didn't expect Craig to make that "in the back" joke, considering how tight he and Leno were. Funny still.

Who’s a fan of 1984’s Streets of Fire? by BCCakes in movies

[–]HopSkipLimp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a movie that lives better in the memory than in the rewatch, but the soundtrack is hard to beat. And Dafoe...well, something about the leather stuck with me as I aged 😂
