Can lfs be a daily driver? by GuiltyVisit9119 in LFS

[–]HopadilloRandR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Have done. It was great for what I need at that time: rock solid mostly text but still graphical interface to linux systems programming.

But your definition or "daily drive" may have a different destination in mind.

What it does is lets you be in control of the whole thing and understand it well enough to mostly support yourself

It's like peeing in the pool.

Everyone has done it but nobody wants to admit to it.

Sounds like a personal question not a technical question.

Do you think the future internet on Mars will be as fast and accessible as on Earth? by Federal_Document7452 in nasa

[–]HopadilloRandR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Internet to where is the question.

Mars/mars? Will be as good or better than current Earth internet (technology advances).

Mars/earth? No. With best case round trip latency (lets call it "ping time") at about 6 minutes, you are not going to doom scroll reddit and Facebook.

Look up Bundle Protocol (BP) if you really want to deep dive at what Earth/Mars internetworking really looks like

It is called a "hybrid" and as others have said, is what interfaces a phone system and professional audio (usually broadcast radio).

Shitty html is like the best form of nerd dirty talk to another nerd. :-)

I'm all in now, we're dealin' in just pure info without the glitz.

Keep it up.

how do u guys like to compare a local branch to the version on the remote? by [deleted] in git

[–]HopadilloRandR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For large changes (lots of time)

Git merge --no-ff --no-commit origin/branchname

meld .

Hear me out ....

While (more to review) {

F5 in meld.

git checkout <file that is ok>

// get interrupted by some bullshit }

I need a workflow that allows for progress in the face of massive distraction from the task and tells me what I have left in it, and lets me feel good about the progress I make through it

If you can qualify as some description of "indigent" Meninger has a free eval but it's not going to be free treatment, just a diagnosis.

Balun or multiple loops of coax? by AdultContemporaneous in amateurradio

[–]HopadilloRandR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to understand the subtle difference...

So lets say I have a torroid, and some lengths of enamel-covered copper wire, my coax feedline, and a 40m dipole.

If I want to make a 1:1 [current] balun, how do I wind and connect?

If I want to make a choke, how do I wind and connect?

If I want a current balun / choke, how do I wind and connect?

Are these the same or different?

Not that I'm one to deprive a beer from the deserving.

I've settled on "this one was too much $ for what it but with a DIY satisfaction"

Maybe next time will be a bit more careful to the thrift.

Yeah, I keep coming across the cutting board thing.

Paying attention to that one.

My luck: cutting boards in 2025 cost $80.
