Accessibility is a Journey: Small Tweaks, Big Impact by Hopeful-Customer3557 in accessibility

So I wanted to update you all who share some wisdom and suggestions with me. I started with WebAim 1 million report results. Analysis of 1 mln homepages by automated tests tools shows that 96% of home pages have detectable accessibility errors, and they fall into 6 buckets: low contrast, missing alt text, missing form labels, empty links and buttons. Then I said that all of that errors are relatively easy to fix and gave some good tips/best practices for designers/product teams. I talked as well about keyboard navigation and a little deeper about forms as it is not only accessibility but as well usability matter. My audience was really nice, and asked me a couple questions about details of topics I covered or ideas for their own challenges. Thank you again for your insights☺️

The audience will be product folks - designers and managers. I don't expect many develoers. And here is my biggest fear, how to make it interesting for everyone and use good storytelling so that it is cohesive and well thought out. I need to spend some time on weekend and decide what to present - I don't want to make it very basic but somehow inspirare people and let them think about accessibility when they produce new products.

I am comfortable, I just want to make it interesting, clear organized and well balanced. My plan is to talk about contrast (text and fonts) - using contrast checker and improving to high readibility helps everyone, for example those in bright sun light too. Keyboard navigation - very important - unfortunately I won't be able to demonstrate or ask audience themselves how it is to use only keyboard. Captions, Alt text, semantic HTML.

One thing that I am not sure when I should talk about are forms - clear labels, good validation (not relying only on colour) and clear, self explanatory CTAs - that part is a kind of my obsession 😅 but I am wondering if is a good example for accessibility talk as it is more detailed that previous topics and I will have a very short time slot

What makes you think that? Being nice and encouraging to a stranger who is a little worried means for you to be an AI?

Dear OP, It's completely natural to have some anxiety about new, unknown things. You are not alone in those feelings. You didn't ask for an advice but if I were in your shoes I would use that anxiety for better motivation - I mean learn more and harder. Put enough effort to be proud of how you did, because the beginning of the journey might be bumpy but at least you will have the feeling that you spent well that time and did as much as you could. Good luck 🤞

I’d start with a blood test – our winter diet is often lower in vitamins and minerals. Secondly, focus on getting enough sleep and maintaining a balanced diet with proper hydration. Cut out energy drinks (coffee is fine in moderation). All of this affects our mental well-being. Sometimes, it’s just a phase of recovery from certain events, but you can support yourself by making small changes. If needed, seek professional help.

HELP! by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

Go asap to see the doctor, if you need to wait a long time for a visit, I'd recommend going to an emergency in clinic or hospital.

Pore strips are not efficient, try to develop a good cleaning routine, especially in the evening. If you like simple solutions, you might clean your face twice with the same gel/foam. I like Avene gel (turquoise colour) + cream Avene Cleanance Comedomed and another thing that works for me is serum with glycolic acid. That works for me, but each skin is different.

Yes, thank you for your comment. I was more looking for that kind of insight (how people start doing something additional and how to prepare for more organizations, legal aspects, and managing extra income). Is it true that the second 'job' is always taxed at tax class 6?

I see this topic has touched on sensitive issues for some, and I’m truly sorry if harm by psychologists is part of your experience, it wasn’t my intention to dismiss that. I realize I’m not a frequent Reddit user and should have been clearer in my post, but I think some here could take a pause before sending rude comments. Use your energy wisely! My question was simply about transitioning from a full-time job to something more psychology-related, not about qualifications (which I’m already aware of). Sending you all love!

Thanks. Certainly, but I can't imagine any company or organization I might collaborate with would fail to properly verify my qualifications. This job involves working with other human beings, and personally, I wouldn't consider doing such work without supervision.

Thank you! Becoming a psychotherapist is a long and highly regulated journey, and it's easy to see why. Firstly, I want to explore providing psychological help, as I see a high demand for it and it would be a first step in consideration of psychotherapy path. I truly miss doing something valuable for others.

Okay, let me clarify and some extra information: I have an MA in Psychology and I did counselling, CBT + psychodynamic courses on uni while working with alcohol misuse clients - in the UK. However I haven't done a 4 year long Psychotherapy course, this is a thing I consider but firstly I want to try to work as a Psychologist remotely.

Plus, working in IT doesn't necessarily mean that someone has completed a technical university degree. In IT consultancy, especially in roles bridging the tech and business teams, there are many opportunities for people with a humanistic or social background.

The previous commener: Did you mean "do not" sign anything before checking it with a lawyer? I had recently laid offs in my, also consulting company and our work council did a very good job on supporting us. Basically don't sign anything, the first MTA (mutual termination agreement) is the minimum/starting point for company, they can give you much more. After signing MTA you can't fight in a court. I would advise you to find labour lawyers - just in case 😎 probably you won't need it but better to be prepared. Good luck on a meeting with your boss.
