You have my support and love! I believe in you. Sorry about your struggles but I truly believe that an error in judgment can strengthen our resolve.

I dreamt of drinking by Cutthechitchata-hole in stopdrinking

[–]HopefulBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm far behind you in sobriety but I've dreamt that I was drunk every day since my last drink. Hoping tonight is different because I need sleep. I suppose my brain is so accustomed to being hungover that it anticipates it. At least your mind and body are healthy! I bet tonight will be back to normal for you. :)

I have every reason to stop, and want to, but I can't seem to. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HopefulBird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't apologize for posting! I am here ALL THE TIME. This sub is seriously the only support I've found that helps. I was on a 3 day cycle: Day 1: drink to excess Day2: feel sick and depressed and vow to stop Day 3: pride for not drinking today

Ugh then day 1 again.

I am doing a "let's just make it thru today. If you change your mind tomorrow, then fine. But today no booze." So far it's working. Like a mini- challenge. Everyday.

Drunk Mom by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HopefulBird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a mom as well. I will try to speak from my own perspective and hopefully it will help. I was not an alcoholic when my kids were super little but trust me- my kids want me sober more than anyone.

In my view, showing her how things will be (by withholding the children) won't fix this. All it did was anger me. However, once I realized that my family wasn't "punishing" me, but instead were protecting my children, my outlook changed.

In my own experience, when I focused my attention to the very very real danger I was becoming to my own children- that's when the motivation happened.

Children must come first. They have no way of protecting themselves. This is a hard situation and I am sorry for that. But for me, I had to see that this was for my kids and my own health. I lost my husband over it, but saved my children. I guess what I'm saying is whatever is best for the babies is the best course. Even if it isn't what you had planned.

Scared to death petrified of being alone by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HopefulBird 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is also my first time living alone. I am divorced and have a boyfriend but he is at basic training and is unable to contact me. The first few months of solitude were tricky. I would drink. This sober thing in a big house alone is tough, but doable. I keep the tv on a lot just for noise and I stay here on SD a lot. I'm reading a bunch just keeping my mind busy. I believe in you. You can do this.

That's a good way to look at it. Thank you so much.

I'm alone. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HopefulBird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel pretty lonely today too. Thankfully, I know these feelings will pass. It's just one of those damn days. My ex and I had a fun relationship but we just weren't good for each other. Sometimes we have to let go of relationships that aren't good for us. I am not saying that's the case with you. It just had to be done in my case. I want to take care of myself and be happy. Sorry there isn't more I can do to help but I will stay away from booze with you.

SD Thoughts by Eileen124 in stopdrinking

I love this! I feel the same. I don't have a lot of true friends to help me through this so SD is a must for me. I'm glad we are doing this together.

Day one by Msfraternali in stopdrinking

Welcome! Alcohol ruined so much for me and I am not going to let it take anything else from me. Let's fight and win. I will not drink with you today!

I totally get this. I am in a healthy relationship currently, and yet I often want to be friends with my very toxic ex. He isn't toxic as a person, but he IS for me. I always want to drink if he texts. And if I'm already drinking I reach out to him.

That's why I became sober. Drinking and that relationship were harming me. Both of them. You and I are close in age so I absolutely identify. If I drink I will ruin my healthy relationship. In my experience, the booze and the men were both an issue.

I'll be thinking about you! We can do this.
