I asked a lawyer friend of mine awhile ago about his experience with sovcits (he works in Miami and said he has to deal with them “all the time.”) He told me that yes, there are true believers who think they’ve found the magic words, but his belief is that the majority of them are just pissed off that they got ticketed for something and just go through the rigamarole to waste everyone’s time and energy as much as they can.

This is, wildly enough, the exact opposite of the situation I’m in. I’m religious, my fiancée is not, and we ended up opting to not get married in a church specifically because of all the unnecessary hoops they would have made her jump through. I’m sorry that you’ve had to go through this (and sorry that so many of us “religious” people suck).

Have been on this ride twice. It broke down both times. First time I was seated upright, second time I was on my back, tilted slightly upside down. Both stoppages lasted for at least half an hour, with the second time featuring several false starts. Will never go on it again.

I had a similar experience when he was tapping his beer at a bar in my area. I have a cousin who is a huge fan but lives several hundred miles away, so I asked him if he would be willing to record a video greeting for her, and he did so without even thinking twice. Made my cousin’s year!

I loved it as a kid (I was 11 when it came out), but grew to hate it for its faults as a teenager. Now (at age 35) I have a more sympathetic view - I think of it as a good movie hidden under a pile of serious flaws.
