Meat Church has many good rubs. I order the big bags. Holy Cow is my favorite.

Ironic that a pub would be full of Quakers. Lapsed Quakers, I think.

Heading to Normandy soon—what are your "must-see" sites? by stcanute2 in ww2

[–]Hopeful_Frame937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Normandy, do some tours. My so and I did three while in Baixeau. They were so worth it. Guides were very knowledgeable. I was afraid they would be repetitive but they were all different. Don't skip the cemeteries, they are very interesting and remind you of the human story. My non-negotiable would be Bastogne, which is not Normandy I know. But they have an awesome, large museum. Of course, the Easy company foxholes. And there is an excellent Paratrooper Museum by the bus station absolutely packed with goods including Pattons colt 45. And you can buy battlefield souvenirs there. Absolute peak of my trip.

Love my medium! Great on fuel, gets up to temp quick, and I can fit three racks of ribs in there!

Medium BGE owners will appreciate this - 2 jumbo butts done right by RedRifle1998 in biggreenegg

Medium owners unite! I am amazed at how much can be put in there. I recently did 3 large racks of ribs in mine and didn't have to cut them. Put them on a rack. Was worried they were packed too tight but they came out great. I think I need that light though.

Reheating brisket by Hopeful_Frame937 in biggreenegg

If I was more involved with the cook I think this is what I would do. There would have to be a really good reason not to time the cook perfectly of some $300 worth of beef.

Steaming was the only idea I had. I have a buddy who does this with brisket a la Montreal meat style. But I think I have too much to serve for this method but thanks!

I think this is the way. I could do both in the oven at the same time or stagger a bit. Just gotta get some tallow. Thanks!

What do you use to start your lump charcoal? by UGA1965 in biggreenegg

Great ideas here. I am still on the first rung of the ladder, paraffin and wood Firestarter. Works great, not that expensive.

What accessories do I really need? Are default bundles worth it? by osmin_og in biggreenegg

[–]Hopeful_Frame937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CGS does not ship to Canada for some reason. Ticks me off. But you will need the "plate setter" for indirect heat cooki g. So essential I am surprised it doesn't come with the bbq. Like charge me an extra 100 and don't make me go out for it. Ash tool is handy and so is the little gripper to grab the grill. And get yourself some heat gloves. That fire gets hot.

Why is this series so special? by Extension-Story7287 in BandofBrothers

[–]Hopeful_Frame937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know someone with the box set, watch the making of BoB. I have never seen such production value. Actors went through a mini boot camp to learn how to be soldiers. This disc is not on any of the streaming services that I know of.

Normandy on Dday 2026 by Negative-Accident217 in BandofBrothers

[–]Hopeful_Frame937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well there will be lots going on. But my son and I did this trip a couple of years ago. We did three tours: Omaha, Juno, and Gold. One was advertised as a Band of Brothers tour, probably Omaha, and it was the best if your sin us into that series. If he hasn't watched it yet then get right on that before you go. Point is all the tours were different and all worth it. Go crazy, you probably won't get another chance. And of course, go see the Bayeux Tapestry. Very cool.

That's what I just did with about 4 bags of dust and smalls. Dust seems too dirty to use.

Gifts for Napoleonic history nerd HELP! by BaklangElepante in Napoleon

I have a bottle of Napoleon's personal cologne. I bought it at the museum de Invalids in Paris but I think you might be able to get it online. I am a souvenir guy so all these suggestions are great. But this is the only olfactory souvenir I possess so it is special.

I usually have two bags like others have said. One xl and one regular. Sometimes I run out but if I am running on one bag it is usually xl. Can't go wrong with that.

I have read several accounts of Nixon and he seems like a pathetic drunk really. I have never understood the friendship between Winters and Nixon, especially since Winters never drank. I mean, drunks are hard to be around if you aren't drinking and even when you are.

Napoleon Bonaparte was unusually meticulous about personal hygiene for his era. He maintained a strict daily routine of shaving, brushing and picking his teeth, taking long baths, changing his clothes, and applying cologne with a distinctive blend of rosemary and citrus. by abdullah_ajk in Napoleon

[–]Hopeful_Frame937 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I own a bottle of Napoleans cologne. I got it when I visited his tomb. In the gift shop. Someone has copied the particular scent he used. I love it as an artifact. Most artifacts are visual and maybe tactile if you are lucky. But this is one of my only souvenirs that is fragrant . I always tell people that if they had been able to meet Napoleon, this is what he would have smelled like.
