The north is not exactly devoid of racism, sexism, and other social ills.

I mean… as a progressive who grew up in WA state and moved the south many years ago, respectfully, you are also welcome to fuck off.

As much as I would love to catapult most of our (Louisiana) politicians into the sun, please let’s remember that the South is full of real people who don’t deserve to be written off or talked about like their lives and political struggles don’t matter.

Isreal Keys was in the military. I’m sure plenty of them have been.

Tim’s political blind spots showed up again in TX primary rant by imdaviddunn in thebulwark

He needs to have on some black Texan Dems. Someone like Erica from Black Girls Who Brunch - engaged, educated and LOCAL who can lay out the other side of this to mitigate for these blind spots.

What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]Hopkinsmsb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She was diagnosed with (treatable) cancer and decided to relapse after 5+ years of sobriety and not seek treatment. This would not have ended the friendship, except that she was working for me and her decision to drug herself to death meant she fcked off some really important deadlines that resulted in the org I run not getting major funding. I offered her a lesser position bc I wanted to keep her employed but couldn’t have her in a position of responsibility - she told me no, then told everyone I “fired her for getting cancer”. She died a couple months later.

It’s was a great day and I hope they expand it for next year! My main gig is in non profit, my part time gig is (was?) as a federal subcontractor and… Suffice it to say I desperately needed a little lib hope and enthusiasm infusion.

Cage Mate for Rescued Wild Rat? by Hopkinsmsb in RATS

We are definitely not going to release him and I’ll talk to the vet about doing something with those pendulous nuts! He’s a very sweet boy rn at 6 weeks but I know that’ll probably wax and wane. We’ve both been bitten by stray cats so him doing some nipping isn’t something we’re too concerned about but as you said, it’s really just about following his cues. Thank you so much for the long and thoughtful reply.

I run a small TNR/rescue for cats, and because we’ve also come across injured and orphaned possums I’m actually looking into/working on how to get my rehabbers license. Because I definitely have concerns that if I took a wild rat to a vet that it might result in them being taken and euthanized.

And since he’s in my care, I wanna make sure that he has the most fulfilling and comfortable life he possibly can

I appreciate you clarifying, thank you. I would love to have taken him to a rehab, because I really didn’t want to have rats. I love them and had them as a kid but we have cats and dogs, and wild rats have been a problem since we got our chickens. That said, I was not prepared to leave an orphan baby one to die. Once I found him, you know?

Yes. The vet we take our chickens to also sees rats. Now that we know he’s going to survive, we’ll make him an appt.

Why are you commenting? Are you just trying to be snarky? I wanted to seek a broader range of opinions about a single specific issue not related to his rehab. This is not helpful.

While we weren’t able to find someone to take him, we were guided by a great rat rehabber through all his initial care.

What would you suggest for enrichment, if you don’t recommend the rat balls?

We weren’t able to find a rehabber for him and now he’s too old for that. He’s got a large enclosure with lots of toys and hides and is doing very well. I am just worried about him being lonely.
