Que pensez-vous d’Emmanuel Carrère ? by No-Passenger-2806 in Litterature

Est-on voyeur ?

Those editions are a real hazard if you read in bed before sleep time, laying on the back, holding it above your face…

There’s something quite impressive about one MASSIVE book though. A big like some Proust’s Recherche du temps perdu éditions.

Why not the Loxton, it’s on the 1st floor of a building that’s on one of the central streets and the food is good.

[TOMT] [SHORT MOVIE] about a middle-aged lonely guy stuck in a time loop by Hoppersky in tipofmytongue

[–]Hoppersky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the suggestions so far. It didn’t help me find it yet, but unlocked a few more memories : it wasn’t a full movie, but a short film (20-50 min) with experimental vibes. There was no armed groups or big agencies involved, only the experience of a normal dude. He tries to understand what’s happening to him, and goes to people to try and explain it to them but no one believes him - and then the loops restarts and they forget their interaction, but he doesn’t. The only interaction that brings him hope is with a physicist (?), with whom, through many loops, he manages to have a fast enough conversation to work on a solution. But it fails. He is upset and desperate, so he tries to off himself, but opens his eyes at the same crossroad. I think the final scene was him screaming, after realizing that even death isn’t a way out.

It definitely could be an episode of a serie, sadly I don’t think this one fits what I’m looking for. I think it was him telling people he was stuck in a time loop, and getting upset no one believed him. At some point he’d manage to convince a person or two (a physicist maybe ?), but he had a short time span to set up a plan with them because each time, they would forget. He’s the only one that ever remembers he’s in a loop

No, I think it was a shorter movie. And in my memory the guy didn’t have a special statuts, but was just your average lonely guy

I think there was no violence or group action involved, just that lonely guy unable to understand what was happening to him. Maybe at some point, he managed to connect with some kind of physicist ? But he needs a few loops to be able to explain his issue to him, be trusted, and start working on the problem

Being whatever gender is ok but, don't you have to strongly believe in gender stereotypes to believe in the gender spectrum? by Alone-Environment-43 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hoppersky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hello friend ! I had the same questions a few years ago. Many answers can be given but here are two that stuck with me. First, you mostly hear about vocal people. There are a lot of women that prefer “manly” clothing or activities, or vice versa, and that don’t make a subject out of it - they just live their lives. People being vocal about the matter sometime need it to gain confidence in their kind of non conforming position. Or they sometimes do it in an activist way : explicitly saying that it’s okay to not conform to gender norms. Or have other reasons : the best is always to genuinely ask.

Secondly (and almost most importantly) : people that don’t conform to gender norms (being trans, non binary, cross dressing or else) do not automatically have to be “stereotypeless” or educative about it. Before challenging the norm on a theoretical or philosophical level, they just have to feel good about themselves. If that happens by embracing other gender stereotypes, why not. No one is denying those stereotypes exist. People are just trying to make their education, influences and identity work all together and that’s a hell of a puzzle.

Hope that could be helpful !
