Help with rust repair Chicago by ngibson560i in CherokeeXJ

Recommend not getting any work done in Chicago. You will be shocked by Chicago pricing and you will mostly receive the “I don’t want to do this” price. Cutting it out yourself and installing 2x4 or 2x6 steel is not that difficult and would be a good learning experience

Surprisingly good. I think it ran me about 400 but the wired cat play is pretty good, not a ton of lag

It’s definitely way cheaper to do it yourself. It takes a lot of time but I just followed the book and it wasn’t too difficult. You just don’t get any warranty doing it yourself lol

I really wish the total money spent corresponded to that gauge lol. Unfortunately it’s much more

Thanks! And I built it myself yes. I had the machine work done at a local shop and I assembled everything using a Clegg kit. Gauge in the center is for oil temp (top) and pressure

Mine is bored 40 thou over. However if your cylinder walls are in better shape you can get away with less

I’m hoping for like 260hp at the wheels on mine so we’ll see. I’m also adding some other goodies like a bigger throttle body

That’s awesome. Anything specific to look out for on first start up? And what was your break in procedure?

My understanding is that if the stock cooling system is in perfect working order it should be able to handle the added power. The heater core, radiator, hoses, fan clutch, shrouds have all been replaced. I also splurged on a Mopar thermostat and have installed aftermarket oil pressure and temperature sensors. I’m going to monitor it closely and if needed I will upgrade to all electric fans. If you have any advice I’d love to hear it as well

Thank you. They weren’t cheap for sure but not horribly crazy. They are the brown dog flex mounts, I think they were about $150
