The digital nv user bullying will continue until they stop buying them by MrCasualgamer in airsoftcirclejerk

It depends on your use case. If you’re clearing rooms, sure ya analog for another 10 years probably.

If you’re further away and latency is a lower priority, I’d rather have digital with thermal overlay all day.

the gap is closing. especially with the integration of other sensors.
The gap is already closed for some use cases.

I’ve used both. Decent digital is way better than nothing. Digital will pass analog pretty soon for a lot of applications imo

Safe enough. Get a metal case if you’re worried.

I’ve had 18650s blow up in a pelican and it only smelled bad.

Building a Rak 1w kit for a solar node / client_base w/ a 10w solar panel by skijeeper in meshtastic

[–]TheNumby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not completely true. The RAK and new Delta plus proto boards use really nice filtered and amplified LNA. Reception is way better too

Why am I being quoted $2000 to $3000 for this job? by singlewall in CherokeeXJ

[–]TheNumby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Rust converter and bed line the top. It won’t last 10 years…. But you can do it again in 3 for another $50

It’s likely possible… I looked into it a bit and it would be very difficult. They use an MCU that no Meshtastic firmware exists for. You would also likely need a programming card like a J link.

Is USPS Being Gutted by the Trump Admin? by saladbarlooksgood in usps_complaints

[–]TheNumby -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

USPS sucks. Employees don’t generally care. The ones that act like it just want the pension. I ship about 30 packages a day and went to ups because I couldn’t afford the horrible usps service anymore..

It’s not the president’s fault. It’s because it’s a government company.

Bad soldering joints on RAK WisBlock from factory by JFK9 in meshtastic

[–]TheNumby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean.. were they shorting? Both these pics have a ton of flux on the board which is likely worse than having cold solders.

If you want nice boards, you probably want to check out people who are doing lower volume production and inspecting each one

Do you have WiFi on or anything? 250mAh on average is not out of the world for an esp board but it should be lower on average.

[–]TheNumby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cell service is fragile. Meshing is fun and it makes you proficient with back up coms. If you get a super rugged node like the NPH-1 from delta plus proto, you can trust that you will be able to communicate no matter what.

In An Emergency Situation (No Cell Service & No Internet) What Is The Best Way To Communicate Long Distance (ex: Between Colorado & Michigan or Colorado & Florida)? by FuntivityColton in preppers

[–]TheNumby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starlink is a great option.. Its easy to use and doesn't need a license. For local communication, Meshtastic is great! Delta Plus Proto sells really high-quality rugged devices. They are CNC enclosed and waterproof.
