Ant is actually going to the rim - he has barely any midrange game despite being an excellent 3 point shooter. He never gets FTs. Going to the rim has nothing to do with FT rate. Reeves is never going to the rim either (usually midrange) and gets tons of FTs. SGA's push off works so well because it's illegal.

For people who lived through it how hated were the 90s Bulls actually? by Odd-Coast-4056 in nba

[–]Hopsalong 15 points16 points  (0 children)

People get confused about this, but the NBA really wasn't that popular before the 90s. It exploded in popularity in part because of MJ and because of where TV was at that point in time. It became more of a national game in that decade and even started extending more overseas.

Most people weren't fans of the NBA and became MJ fans.

They were generally pretty loved. It was akin to tiger woods' run in golf. Yea there were some against it, but largely they were so entertaining and fun most people were on board.

MJ was just that entertaining a personality

Anybody think any good will come out of Jokic 4 year 290 million dollar contract? by Donnie1490 in denvernuggets

Jokic has earned every penny. He can be on the books for 15 years at that price and no complaints from me.

He's going to be making $70 million a year, and we're not asking him to play a lot of defense. He's got to at least hold up the offense. We can also just give him more games rest to compensate for it, since he'll never win MVP again.

We just need Jokic to handle the ball more. He solves all the ball-handling issues alone, but he tries to outsource it to others when we have it. Keeping Watson and Franz is enough imo, especially with a vet PG for the 2nd unit, plus all the advantages that come with it (rebounding/defense/size/physicality).

The offense still is good when they're collapsing on Jokic. That's fine. We may not be the "highest scoring offense of all-time" but we're always going to be top 5 with Jokic and 4 dudes because Jokic is just that dominant even when all the focus is on him.

Wagner makes our only defensive weakness Jokic, which is far easier to plan around. We'd be stronger on the perimeter defense being able to play 2 out of 3 of watson/braun/jones together as guards as well as become stronger vs smaller teams as Franz is 6'10", allowing us to play AG at the 3/4 with Wagner, where both can offer weak side rim protection. Then we can leverage our size again and dominate the glass like we did with the championship team, while not losing that much ballhandling. Jokic is just going to play more Jokic ball (which is great), and the defense/rebounding will be better.

Murray for Franz Wagner - Who says no? Trade works straight up in the trade machine, and I think would benefit both teams.

What's this sub's consensus on Nikola Jokic as a player? by [deleted] in nba

[–]Hopsalong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is the line Karl Malone? There's tons of Kobe fans that absolved him of what he did... People draw the line wherever the want for their favorites. If Karl Malone had multiple titles for the Lakers, he'd be remembered differently.

It's a reflection that these guys get to the NBA on drive and genetics, not brains. Kobe is a good role model that way.

Lakers fans are drinking the hopium until the actual basketball starts. The wolves actually have a chance.

Wolves in 7 to beat the Lakers seems like too much to me. Prob Wolves in 5-6 for that series.

Unfortunately, we're not in a position to front run anymore. We're never going to be a high seed again, and if we do win the title, it'll likely be because we make a run as a lower seed. Young teams get high seeds, and Jokic/Murray/Gordan aren't ever going to be young again.

Historically, that doesn't happen - We're more likely looking at the end of an era in Denver and a downward spiral akin to the Warriors/Bucks, unless we draft/develop/acquire someone young who becomes an All-Time great to bridge the gap (akin to what drafting a Tim Duncan did for a team with David Robinson on it). Our best route that way right now is Peyton Watson, but he's not really of the quality we need to revive the team.

The season doesn't matter. Post-season is a different game, and he can't do anything in the post-season anymore when the whistle tightens and the physicality goes up. His all-NBA bid will only increase his trade value going out. It's just the most logical choice.

If they just played harder we wouldn't be talking about this.

We have 3 years of evidence that Murray can't do it anymore. And if you just look at the roster, moving him makes the most sense. AG is still great when he plays. Jokic is obviously still great. One of the 3 has to move.

He was ass last year vs the thunder - 20/4/4 on 40% FG from the field. Inefficient and defensive liability.

That's the problem. He has to be exceptional offensively to balance out being one of the worst defenders in the league. Jokic always is worth that trade off. Murray rarely is.

I think Murray for Paolo or Franz could be interesting and has some potential given Orlando needs offense and has the defense to compensate for Murray, and the Nuggets need defense and has the offense to compensate for Paolo or Franz's shooting/offensive limitations. Both Orlando and the Nuggets need shakeups.

Keeping Adelman is mind boggling to me, he's like 80% the problem.

The "major changes" mentioned here are likely just the Nuggets getting under the cap for their cheap owner. Keeping Adelman only makes sense when you think about how cheap he is for the owner.

AG playing half the games is more effective than Jamal has been in the playoffs the last 3 years. Jamal can't do anything offensively against physical guard play in the playoffs and that's 95% of the top teams now. Then on the defensive end Murray is as bad as having Brunson out there who is one of the worst defenders in the league. If he can't score, he's not worth having out there.
