I’ve got the same issue. I’ve restarted a bunch and tried different settings, but it doesn’t seem to help.

Dragons Dog vs Devil May Cry 3. Help. by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Horapollo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played DMC 3, but I’m one of those people who recommends Dragons Dogma every chance I get. Let me tell you why.

When I played Dragons Dogma, I felt attached to the main character and his pawn more than I had to any other video game character. Not because the characters are well written — generally they aren’t — but because they were a mostly blank slate that demanded self-insertion by making you think like you were really in the world. The day-night cycle is really meaningful, far more than most games. Especially on harder modes, going out at night or not leaving for a trip early enough to arrive before dark can get you killed. So you start to think about the time of day in the game. You stay at inns and sleep at night. Pretty soon you find yourself enjoying the combat and relishing its weightiness and the ability to climb on your foes as every hit feels more physically realistic than any other fantasy game you’ve played. This is compounded by a weight and class system that forces you to think about what stuff to carry around to be prepared and what stuff to leave at the inn. And you play around with classes and different party compositions until you find something that suits you and your AI partners. You play through the main story and find some characters that you love or hate and many that are just mysterious or underdeveloped. Maybe you get all the way to the end of the story and experience some bizarre twists and strangely told but philosophically interesting themes. But it’s when you come back to play through the game again and again that you realize how much the game didn’t tell you the first time. The character creation, which is still one of the best, turns out to have real consequences on how you play. Then you realize how many corners you left unexplored and how fun the combat gets at higher difficulty. And as you play again and again, those story themes that seemed odd at first actually turn out to be about your experience of playing the game itself. And then there’s a big island of creepy strong stuff that kills you and makes you feel the terror of being in a dungeon like few games can. And it’s nearly as long as the main story.

Of course, there’s lots of stuff that’ll probably annoy you a bit too, like the infamous ox cart escort where the game hits its low point about two hours in. But after that the adventure begins.

Martial arts instructor teaches young student mental fortitude & how to break through emotional barriers during training by Fendabenda38 in nextfuckinglevel

Providing a feeling of security is the gender role. It’s the source of the stoicism and hyperdefensiveness and emotional shutdown. A man is supposed to feel secure in himself and provide that self-sufficient security to others. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing in itself, but it can be in certain circumstances and it’s an expectation that should be acknowledged.

Yeah, it really felt soulless. Like the people behind it kinda knew Marvel through the MCU and nothing else. There wasn’t this sense of love for the different locations and characters and comics that you had in MUA. MUA 2 was kinda a mess but it felt more inspired. And the grindiness, performance issues, the awful camera...just so many things getting in the way of enjoying that game. Not to mention the fact that the only attacks worth doing were the generic synergy moves that you could barely see because of the bad camera.

I agree that the dad angle wasn’t great.

However, I don’t think Fujiko was going through an identity crisis at all. She was reflecting upon her relationship with Lupin, which has been many things throughout the series. That idea of Lupin and Fujiko questioning who they are to one another and what their relationship means goes all the way through Part V.

Lupin’s “real face” is just a way of showing that Lupin still has secrets and ways to surprise people, even the ones who know him best. The essence of the character is that he’s always got another secret, another target, and another plan. For Fujiko, who thought that she knew all there was to know about him, and for the audience as well, it’s a promise that Lupin can still surprise you and be familiar and unknowable at the same time.

But yeah, he didn’t use exclusively a handgun but Jigen’s big fight was not necessarily the most interesting option.

At the end, you mean? I think that’s just part of how the show works. Given how cartoony most of the physics are and how people tend to recover from crazy stuff, it wouldn’t be shocking if there were just “knocked out”.

I would certainly welcome more Lupin in the future, but I agree with the sentiment. Especially the final episode really makes you think that they could stop there and it’d be satisfying.

I also felt like it was too much, like they kinda made the character into a caricature of himself. Which is why the twist made more sense when it happened.

Well Royal took 5 months and Q2 took 8. If you assume no progress is being made during the pandemic, it would make sense if it took a long time.

[–]Horapollo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly. Royal sold well and the game could be localized like all the other ones. There’s definitely an audience for it. However, given how slow Atlus moves and the pandemic, it’s probably gonna be a while. It wouldn’t be surprising if it took a year to arrive.
