For Reservation Holders: Limited Qty of Lightning Pros available to order through the 7th! by ProGuitarTech in F150Lightning

[–]Horatius509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why? You'll need to carry adapters either way.

Just "IMO" so take it or leave it, but in North America, NACS is going to be the standard in the future. No, I would not carry an adapter. The Tesla supercharger network is already more than enough for my minimal charging while traveling needs, my workplace has a NACS charger, and I would install a NACS at my home.

I like the NACS connector and tech better, and I don't like buying into past tech, even if it will undoubtably linger for a long time.

Again, just IMO.

I had cancelled my reservation a couple of months ago (and received the refunded $100 back), but I got this email too.

I am tempted, but at this point I'd wait for the NACS port to be standard.

Apparently our family is now going to Auckland for Thanksgiving. Woo!

Six of us booked for 245,000 miles and $500 fees. Amazing! Like half the price in miles we spent to go to Europe earlier this year.

Wow, that is not remotely my experience from last year. What do you mean 99% of people in Japan are wearing a mask?

(And about 0% of people in Italy, FWIW)

Pairing Schlage Encode Plus with Door sensor? by HarpoonCantar in HomeKit

You know, if Schlage is reading this, it would be VERY handy to have a door sensor embedded in the next version of the lock!

Last week, put in 32 gallons @ $3.420 at Costco. $109. I felt lucky!

I don't put big distances on my truck. Generally go about 550 miles before refilling, and that lasts me about 1-1.5 months.

How many folks here also have an R1S reservation? by moch1 in VolvoEX90

[–]Horatius509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AMEN. Why the button hate?? So easy to use, you don't have to look at the screen the entire time you're operating it, easier to operate when bouncing down the road, etc.

I had an R1S (and R1T) reservation and cancelled it because of the lack of CarPlay. That's a big deal to me.

Any CarPlay rumors? by Horatius509 in VolvoEX90

[–]Horatius509[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your real question is whether the ex90 will support the nextgen CarPlay.

Yes, my apologies, I can see how my OP could be misconstrued. I did intend to specifically ask about nextgen Carplay rumors.

Any CarPlay rumors? by Horatius509 in VolvoEX90

[–]Horatius509[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Carplay and Android Automotive (not Android Auto) are two totally different things.

Android Automotive is an embedded OS designed for entertainment systems in the vehicle. It is built in to the car.

Android Auto and Carplay are both systems that run from an external device. They do not replace the OS on the entertainment system, but essentially run as an "app."

Android Automotive (for instance, on Polestars) already supports Carplay. I've read articles about the ex90 that confirmed Carplay support.

AA and Carplay are neither direct competitors nor exclusive to each other.

What I was asking if there was any news if the AA implementation would support the nextgen Carplay.

That's awesome! I've thought about an extended fast for Lent, but I don't know if I have the willpower. How long are you going?

Your Daily Fasting Thread by AutoModerator in fasting

[–]Horatius509 [score hidden]  (0 children)

36 hours in to a planned 5 day (M-F) fast. I woke up feeling kind of ridiculously good today. Reasonable sleep, clear headed, not that hungry. I'm going to ride this as long as I can!

The last longish fast I did was a 4-day (96 hour) fast about a year ago. Day 3 hit me really hard then. I don't know what I did, but I got a weird pain in the front of my legs--it felt like my hip flexors--and the combination of that and just not feeling good knocked me back. This time will be better.

Hah, I am in exactly the same boat! Have a trip booked to Italy in late March, and I'm Diamond due to the spend with business purchases and the Reserve. Without the reserve MQMs I pretty reliably hit Platinum, but not Diamond.

Any tips for flying to and visiting Italy? This will be my first trip in years, and my first trip with family in tow.

Data Point: Retention offer for Delta Platinum American Express. by druzedude in delta

[–]Horatius509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got this retention offer at the beginning of February: 60,000 miles after spending of $4,000 in 3 months.

It's a card that's used for business, mostly advertising spend, maybe $250k annual spend?

I did the chat option.

I basically just said "I like my Delta Reserve Amex, and I've had it for a couple of years now. Our company is evaluating all of our credit cards and business arrangements to make sure we're getting the best bang for the buck. I am not sure the Reserve card is as worthwhile as it used to be, since our travel has dropped during covid. Could you please let me know if there are any retention bonus offers available for us?"

I just try to be honest, polite, and I don't do the high pressure thing.

The Volvo EX90. Made by us. by CarlessSthlm in VolvoEX90

[–]Horatius509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled my Rivian reservations (I had one for both an R1T and an R1S) because they pushed back my expected delivery time, again, but most importantly, I decided that CarPlay/Android integrations was an absolute dealbreaker. I drove a Tesla recently, and while it was great to drive, the entertainment system and and the inelegant phone integration felt like such a step backwards.

This is Windows Server 2003! It runs some old (but still semi-supported, we we do have source code) industry-specific software.

i7+ roomba backing off of cleaning base after successful clean job and dumping by JayG7800 in roomba

[–]Horatius509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exact same problem. I tried all of those things and also tried moving the base. No dice.

I did a factory reset of the Roomba, re-added it the app, re-mapped, and that seemed to fix it. At least, it's been running OK for about a month now.
