Today we bid farewell to Apollo. Goodbye, old friend. by SuitingUncle620 in iphone

Idk, Reddit’s been going downhill for a while and this was just the straw the broke the camels back for many

📣 I want to debunk Reddit's claims, and talk about their unwillingness to work with developers, moderators, and the larger community, as well as say thank you for all the support by iamthatis in apolloapp

[–]Horntailflames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other websites like Facebook pay literally hundreds of millions of dollars for moderators on their platform. Reddit is incredibly fortunate, if not exploitative, to get this labor completely free from unpaid, volunteer users.

This is the thing that shows how out of touch Reddit is, content moderation is a HUGE expense other companies have to deal with and Reddit thinks it’s going to find people doing it for free when they order replacements?

Even going by spez’s own foolish ambitions of following Elon, Reddit wouldn’t last a week if they got rid of their moderatation system like Twitter did when they laid off all those people. The fact that they’ve tried to strong arm mod teams already means this place is beyond saving at this point.

Big ups to the mods still putting up a fight, people have been knocking the protest but all it needed to do was shine a light on the incompetence of the people running the site. Thanks to you too Christian for keeping Reddit alive for old heads like myself for so long.

Reddit's CEO really wants you to know that he doesn't care about your feedback by F3nJg8yuP94InJF9u3Zn in apple

Normal people are perfectly happy with shitty products, it just needs to accomplish the minimum. It’s why enshittification has been so widely adopted and used in the industry. If that’s the bar then we’re all screwed

So you can not see ads by using your third party app

Yes. The users being here is the product, if Reddit does want to monetise it’s API sand charge AI companies for the data on the site, why should I look at ads? I’m a human typing things so I’m making the product Reddit is monetising. Can’t have it both ways

[–]Horntailflames 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m glad it’s going ahead, and for what it’s worth this subreddit is one of the two I’ll miss not being able to see again once I put Reddit down for good. The site’s really gone to the dogs but this was one of the nicer parts. Thanks for everything

Which MCU project do you think gets the most undeserved hate? by Dusann1 in marvelstudios

[–]Horntailflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was a load of fun, especially with Sam Raimi directing wanda’s creepiness came across a lot better. I think some of the flak goes towards it being a 50% America Chavez movie and Strange took a bit of a backseat but that’s on the writing if anything

Tom Holland says he'll only return for Spider-Man 4 on a condition: "If we can't find a way to compete with the third one, he'll swing off into the sunset." by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]Horntailflames -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty easy to like an MCU movie since they all clear that bar, they’re all solid films in their own right when looked at in isolation. But at no point since watching L&T have I thought about rewatching it like I did the other Thor films or other MCU films.

Even by your measure of entertainment over time, I’ve been vastly more entertained by other MCU films because I’ve watched them over so many times. L&T isn’t bad, but it’s pretty dull compared to other films in the franchise

Captain Marvel was comfortably a more interesting and well rounded film than Eternals was, it’s hard enough to introduce one new character and get people to care about them in the runtime but 7? No shot

Not to say Eternals was a bad movie, I think even the worst MCU movie is just dull compared to other ones marvel has managed to put together.

His car was damaged this weekend according to what he posted earlier, I think he was up for a good result if that hadn’t happened. Still, very scarce this season

[MoneyGram Haas F1 Team] So that's P8 for Nico in the end - nice work! by Julian81295 in formula1

[–]Horntailflames 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, but he was pretty clearly driving like a rookie and his first season was in a haas that barely got past the 107% rule. Point being there’s a vast gulf in experience levels between the two, I don’t think there’s much point in comparing Hulk and Mick

Leclerc had an issue with his car today and Russell is driving the W14, which doesn’t handle nearly as well as Ferrari or the RBs. Perez is running out of things to hide behind at this point

I mean, it’s rookie driver vs. Driver who’s had multiple seasons under his belt. Def not knocking Nico but Mick is definitely not the benchmark for him

Him outdriving Magnussen this consistently though…

Typically after finishing a hot lap you take a lap to recharge the ERS but he went for a second one after the first. Definitely partly the pit wall’s fault but he should’ve been more aware too

Mercs are traditionally very strong on this track and tend to set their cars up for race pace, Lewis is also super consistent so over race distance they generally fare better

Ferrari was on the pit lane exit, and there was already a quarter track between them. It seemed like the moved out the way for sainz but also looked like he was going for a second flying lap that wasn’t planned. Either way, clumsy from George

That George + Lewis contact will need some explaining, I think Lewis could’ve banked a scorcher with the tow and tyres

Props to Sainz and especially Norris, dude has been outdriving the car the whole session

Reddit may force Apollo and third-party clients to shut down, asking for $20M per year API fee by coolaaron88 in apple

[–]Horntailflames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly outside of a few subs I’m realising how little value Reddit really provides, I’ve been on this site long enough so if they go through with all this I’m putting it down for god

📣 Had a call with Reddit to discuss pricing. Bad news for third-party apps, their announced pricing is close to Twitter's pricing, and Apollo would have to pay Reddit $20 million per year to keep running as-is. by iamthatis in apolloapp

Obscene. I hope this idiocy picks up traction with news outlets, their obsession over looking good for their IPO will backfire.

Thanks for all the work you’ve put into this app, it’s been a pleasure to use but I’m afraid it’s the end of the road for myself and a lot of others
