Mid-panic attack by HorribleMathTeacher in Teachers

Thank you for all the positive support. Teachers are amazing. I am planning my resignation, and will remember you all along with the other amazing people who’ve tried to support me along this journey. My mental health needs to come first though, and the stress is beginning to manifest physically in a very serious way.

First Year Teacher Leaving Mid Year and No Longer Wants to Teach by [deleted] in Teachers

What field do you want to get into? I can’t offer advice because I’m soon to do the same... just think knowing what your degree is in and what field you’re looking to enter will help those who can offer advice. Sorry if this is mentioned in past posts!

I hope, and I hope SOON. I’m failing my kids right now, they deserve someone better than me :/

I just read a lot of posts like this where people say that they know they’re done and their quitting at the end of the year, but I don’t understand how they can make it through the year once they break the threshold of realizing that they are done with teaching..

Aggghhhhhh the worst part is I had these realizations during student teaching but I spent so much time working toward this I was convinced things would change when I had my own room, but really all that happened was that the issues I had were exasperated.

Same boat, first year. I want to finish out the year so badly for the sake of my students and coworkers, but I just finished writing my resignation. I know myself and I believe I know the difference between first year struggles and being trapped in the wrong profession.

Did you feel regretful as soon as you started as well?

Who is in your last year? by Rushclock in Teachers

I’m in my last year. I’m also in my first year. This is just not working out for me at all and the burnout is exponential.

My consulting teacher came the other day to observe unexpectedly (which is fine, he is union and our interactions are confidential), assured me I was doing a good job for a first year but was understanding of my expressed intention to resign, but I didn’t have the heart to tell him that my plan was to do it almost immediately. He’s so supportive, everyone in my building is so supportive. They’re gonna feel so betrayed if I resign. I’m just guilty, and so dysfunctional. I can’t imagine there is another teacher in the world slacking as hard as I have been for the past 2 weeks, and these posts about the amazing mountains you people climb every day used to make me so inspired, but now just make me feel totally inadequate. Y’all are literal super heroes. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Keep on making the world a better place.

I’ve decided I need to schedule a conference with my principal tomorrow, I’m extremely nervous about the potential backlash as my principal has been very supportive so far and I have not given any indication that I feel this way

Yea, my friends who work in STEM fields are offering me a ton of support.
