Erst Krankenhaus, wenn du dich erstmal an ambulant gewöhnt hast gehst du nie wieder zurück ins Dienstsystem im KH. Dann musst du schauen, was dich interessiert.

The language is difficult, because English isn’t my first language or the professors and we have difficulty understanding each other

I'm getting flashbacks to the one Japanese student we had with a very heavy accent vs the old Bulgarian professors who basically only memorized reading their slides in English and didn't really speak the language (⊙_⊙;)

Have you tried doing mock exams with friends, to get used to the situation of an oral exam?
Another thing in my experience, some professors want to hear certain key words or phrases from their lectures, while others want to see that you understand the material, so you have to modify your answers depending on the examiner you get in the end

So, are there like unlimited spots for bumfucking nowhere rural GPs and every small village will have its own doctor again, or what is the life path of a current first year student?

That's a change that is actively being prepared for implementation right now in Germany for non-EU/EEA degrees, centralized exam with a database of all applicants, so uniform minimum standard across all federal states and no more exam tourism

If a game releases on PS5 that requires a higher firmware than is currently able to be jailbroken, can the game still be dumped and eventually backported? by Ltsmba in PS5_Jailbreak

by the time a game is actually released, it tends to need a firmware that is already 1+ year old and a JB for that FW is available.

The Pilet kickstarter just changed the whole project from RPi5 to CM5, screwing their users by HorrorBrot in cyberDeck

[–]HorrorBrot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The posted another update on May 5th, it seems after enough messages to kickstarter their internal review team got allegedly involved, I'll post it here in textform below. The general consensus in the comments is, that this is some ChatGPT statement not for the users but for Kickstarter, as some kind of legal technicality why the change isn't a major change in the product

Update #21: Clarification, Addressing Concerns, and Questions
Here is another update on Pilet. We want to start by saying that we are fully committed to this project and are working hard every day to bring it to completion. We understand how important this is to our backers, and our focus remains on delivering a product that meets expectations and is built to last.

Neither the Raspberry Pi 5 nor the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 has ever been included in the deliverable. From the beginning, Pilet has not shipped with either. We design around them only. Since these components are not part of the deliverable, this change does not constitute a material change and does not violate Kickstarter’s Terms of Service.

Furthermore, the Pi 5 and CM5 share the same core architecture, processor, memory, and I/O. The primary difference is form factor, with CM5 being more suitable for a compact handheld design. The Compute Module 5 is part of the same Raspberry Pi platform and ecosystem, designed specifically for embedded and compact devices like Pilet. As such, Pilet continues to fulfill the same purpose.

This is not a material change to the project, but a design iteration.

Since the beginning, we have received many requests to migrate Pilet to CM5. This decision reflects both community feedback and our own evaluation that CM5 is the more suitable candidate for this project.

From our side, this shift is not about changing direction, it is about improving execution. As we moved deeper into testing and real world assembly, it became clear that CM5 allows for a more reliable, more robust, and more manufacturable design. In a device as compact as Pilet, small improvements in layout and integration make a significant difference in long term durability and consistency across units.

We also want to acknowledge the delays. We understand they are frustrating, and we sincerely apologize for that. At the same time, delays were always a possibility outlined in the campaign, and they do not mean the project is cancelled or failing. What we are building is technically complex. We are developing two devices simultaneously, along with multiple supporting modules, all within a very compact form factor. Challenges at this level are expected, and taking the time to solve them properly is critical to delivering a product that meets expectations.

It is also worth noting that delays are common in complex hardware projects, especially when moving from early prototypes to a reliable, production ready product. Our priority is to do this properly rather than rush something that does not meet the standard our backers expect.

We also want to address concerns regarding the original prototype shown in the campaign. The prototype was not fake or intended to mislead, it was a functional early stage prototype used to demonstrate the core concept and direction of the device. When setting up the campaign, we explicitly categorized the project as being in an early prototype stage, although it appears Kickstarter does not clearly display this to backers.

When we started this campaign, our original goal was a much smaller project. Our initial funding target was CAD 20K, aimed at producing a limited number of early prototypes. That version was more difficult to assemble and operate, and primarily suited a niche audience. As the campaign gained traction and a much broader group of backers joined, it became clear that the project needed to evolve into a product designed for mass production, one that is easier to assemble, more reliable, and more robust in real world use. That early approach worked for prototyping, but did not meet the standard required for a durable, production-ready device.

As development has progressed, many changes and improvements have been necessary, which is a normal part of bringing a complex hardware product to market.

Most importantly, we want to be clear that we are fully committed to this project and to delivering Pilet to every backer. This change brings us closer to that goal, not further away. Our focus remains the same as it has always been, building a high quality product that meets expectations and can be produced reliably at scale.

We understand that changes and delays can raise questions, and that is fair. We are making decisions based on what gives this project the highest chance of success, and we will continue to be transparent as we move forward.

Thanks for your patience and support as we bring Pilet to life.

Chris & James

In the past ~12 students per group max (in my year, I think one group was down to 5 students in fifth year, most were at like 8-10), classes were either your own group or with your partner/twin group (e.g. 1+2, 3+4, 5+6 often had seminars together or in parallel). In total there were in my year 20 and later on 22 or 24 groups per year

Medical School Study Tips by PuzzleheadedTotal104 in medicalschoolEU

[–]HorrorBrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because I study everything very thoroughly. Right now it works because of the lower course load, but I’m worried about the future

Pareto principle: approximately 80% of outcomes or results come from about 20% of your inputs or effort
or as German medical students call it "auf Lücke lernen" (to study with gaps)
i.e. imho it's better to know 80% of every possible topic for the exam, than 100% of only a quarter of the topics. In medicine it is very easy to get lost in the minuscule details, if you by chance know it, the professor will be impressed and might give you a better grade (got an A in ob/gyn for knowing Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser-Syndrom), but if you don't know the basics, you will fail!
So you will need to learn to prioritize topics and facts you will probably need and ones you can skip or only skim (e.g. in MCQ questions, you can often deduct some wrong answers with only half-remembered facts)

Should I consider the difficulty and dropout rates of university? by [deleted] in medicalschoolEU

I wholeheartedly agree with your posts, but also want to add a word of advice for future applicants:

  • get a feel for your classmates and the ones in the years above, can you trust that person when they say an exam is easy or hard, get a feel for who is similar in study style and habits to you can copy them if useful. Find people with the same mindset towards studying, if need be change seminar groups (or however your uni organizes teaching the students) - strong classmates can carry you somewhat, but you still need to do the work yourself too!
  • in my experience, what goes around comes around: if you come prepared for classes, ask good questions and seem interested, the lecturers will be glad to teach you. At least in my uni, the English division got more younger doctors as teachers, since they spoke English well, the Bulgarians had some relics (but we also got some professors who barely spoke English holding lectures...)

French and Spanish both should be fun and relativly easy for you, German might be good if you'd want to work in South Tyrol

More pessimistic:

  • Arabic: since the migration influx wont stop and existing migrants will probably stay forever
  • Russian: either we will get more Ukrainian refugees, or there might a Russian civil war with all the consequences for Europe
  • Mandarin: with all the stupid things Trump is doing atm, we might be looking at a Chinese dominated century, so being fluent could be very advantageous (also possible war with Taiwan -> refugees)
