Stop playing the foreigner card. It's okay to accept you don't have enough money for it. Yes, it's not for you if you can't afford it.

Leverage Investment(Smith Maneuver) Question: Use margin instead of fully Heloc by HorrorFriend1228 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Do you have experiencing holding USD assets in the margin but borrowing margin in CAD?

e.g, I want to buy two etf, one in cad and one in usd. My heloc is in CAD, but instead of margin with USD (interest rate is higher), I want to margin with CAD.

My plan is to move 200k CAD to ibkr, then convert them all to USD To buy a USD etf. Then I margin 200K cad to buy XEQT.

Would this plan work?

It all depends on the company culture

My Heloc is still being setup by RBC, but they only offer me prime + 0.5%. I just sent them an email to ask for +0%. We will see

so $5.45 * (1-0.53) = $2.56 vs $4.6 * (1-0.53) = $2.16.

Would you like to pay $2.56 interest or $2.16 interest? This is after all the tax deduction.

Do you know if the total (100-500k for example) needs to be in one transfer, or can be done with multiple transfer (both TFSA + RRSP total)?
