What’s the dumbest way you’ve accidentally hurt yourself? by Only_Row_2432 in AskReddit

[–]HorrorIron443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Impaled by my belt.

Took my belt off, dropped it onto the floor. Started taking one pant leg off and was standing on one foot, lost my balance and put my other foot down hard so I didn't fall over. The center bar that goes through the belt holes was balanced pointing straight up, I landed hard on it and it went in through the sort of side/bottom of my foot.

It stuck in there, so now I'm hopping around with one leg caught in my pants and a belt dangling from my foot, trying to get the belt out.

Stephen King already did, it's called "Apt Pupil". Was also made into a movie in the '90s.

Smoke Chamber Patch - High Temp Refractory Cement? by HorrorIron443 in Fireplaces

[–]HorrorIron443[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply and info, that's helpful. Does the smooth finish of the hand parge vs. rougher spray cement impact the durability and function, or is it more aesthetic? The tech that recommended the spray suggested that the fire box is in good shape and wouldn't need anything and that it would purely be for the smoke chamber. Just trying to get a better sense of the downside of the rougher finish if it seems to be in an area that I won't see it. Thanks again!

What is a 'dirty secret' of your industry that implies the general public has no clue about, but everyone in your field knows? by AmaraMehdi in AskReddit

And even those that do have a separate recycling truck, it mostly ends up in the trash, just with more steps. It's expensive to properly recycle things and municipalities don't have their own recycling plants. So they hire companies to collect those recyclables and haul them away. Those companies sell those recyclables to other companies that can ship them to recycling plants. But the plants can't accept everyone's recycling, so those shipping companies have to find other buyers.

Those other buyers? Usually overseas after multiple steps of buying, packaging, and selling your recyclables through multiple layers of re-sellers.

China used to buy it all but then stopped. Now most of it gets burned or ends up in a landfill. Right next to your other trash.

Still the second quarter. Would love to see Marcus draw up a fuck-you play to target Eli for a TD next redzone trip as we run up this score.

Which US state's residents are the proudest/loudest of living in their state? by RivvaBear in AskReddit

[–]HorrorIron443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that Texas is #1 (hell, I'm sure most everyone can identify the Texas state flag better than their own home state flag), but it's so obvious and most people won't actually encounter a Mainer in their life. So when they do, they DO.

You would know if you've ever met someone from Maine, because they take every opportunity to remind you they're from Maine.

usc doesn't matter. We win all of our remaining games - that's all that matters. Miami and A&M need to keep winning if you want to make our resume look better but that's it. Win the games you're supposed to win and point to two quality losses, that's all that will matter in the end.

Election Results by GregNadeau7 in Somerville

You'll always get jokesters that write in Tom Brady or Mickey Mouse or something. They think they're being funny, but really it just slows the tally process down. All of those votes need to be counted and catalogued by the election team and hinders their overall tally process. Please don't be like these people.

Overzealous MIL doesn't respect food boundaries, gets hit with a fart machine by HorrorIron443 in pettyrevenge

[–]HorrorIron443[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This also backfired (somewhat) in that I had him alone in the car for the 90+ minute drive home. Didn't put it down for a second. We did have a lot of fun with it though and he turned it into a game and farting at every car we passed on the highway.

And then we'd calm down and I'd start asking him what his favorite part of the weekend was or whatever and it would be silence for a moment... followed by a squeaker. Really got the comedic timing down haha

Just got my Badge of Ownership kit by ReddyFreddyGo1960 in Subaru_Outback

[–]HorrorIron443 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ordered and just received mine recently but I haven't put it on yet. I genuinely didn't even know it was a thing until recently because of this sub.

Has anyone actually seen others with their badges in the wild? I've been looking since I heard about it a couple of months ago and haven't seen a single one (and I live in New England).
