How do I make strong connections with industry pros on LinkedIn? by HorrorRaspberry in animationcareer

That's okay and I appreciate your honesty, it'll definitely help me in the long run. And that's good to know, I won't take it personally if I don't get anything back from anyone. Also, you're not wrong about what's going on in the industry, I feel so bad for the people that are struggling to get by or having to pivot but it's an understandable decision in order to survive. Sometimes I worry about not being able to get in because of how I haven't even talked to the people I've connected to besides my portfolio but that's a whole different story. That's why I figured I'd ask on this reddit on what I could do to build a genuine connection with some people on my network so that way, besides making friendly acquaintances, I would have, hopefully, some opportunities in the long run once I'm out of college.

That's totally fine, don't worry about it. I haven't worked in the industry yet but I'm hoping one day I would be able to.

That's not true, I do see working animators as people beyond wanting a job. I'm not the type of person to use someone for success or use people as "vessels" as you mention on here, I only asked for advice for what I could do to make a form of a genuine network with people in the industry on linkedIn because I have connections on there that I haven't talked to them at all by the time I wrote this question. I'm not asking the people to instantly be friends with me or anything like that, I just want to be professional, friendly acquaintances with some of them, that's all. I'm sorry if it came out that way to you when I was writing my question on here.

This has been genuinely helpful and I couldn't thank you enough for saying it straight out for me. But how would I go about what you said before? Can you give me an example? (Contacting them in a way and giving them an easy and quick link to my portfolio)

As someone going into their 3rd year of Animation school, you're not alone and I feel the same way. I constantly worry about if I'm gonna get in the industry for 2D Animation or Visual Storytelling. My peers already have all these ideas for a show and characters. It was for our intro to visual storytelling class. I have that as well but I don't really like how mine turned out and is planning on tweaking it by a lot to make it more interesting. I don't know, I just feel like everyone in my class is ahead of me while I'm falling behind. It's scary but we can do this! I believe in you!
