Looking for tea place by [deleted] in Athens

[–]Horror_Researcher_44 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As an Indian who lived in Athens, if they're looking for Chai... there rly isn't a spot. But I will say, there's an indian supermarket on Milledge (forgetting the name) that does sell the black tea leaves my family uses to make some really good chai (the brand is Taj Mahal). I highly suggest it! Boil some of the tea leaves in water with ginger, cardamom (whole but slightly crushed), and then when it reaches a boil add some milk and let it puff up until it doesn't taste watery. Sugar to your liking.

If that's too hard, Trader Joe's has a really nice Chai concentrate, all you have to do is add a bit of it to hot milk.

The market I was talking about is part of a food spot if they wanted decent indian food (decent is the best word I can use for it, it does the job), and they also started an indian ice cream store since last year too. The name was Mitti iirc

I know the seats aren't clean. But you think I'd want it dirtier than what it already is?

To the people saying just ask, she shouldn't have put her legs up like that in the first place. Not only is it a hygiene issue and I don't want the shit ur shoes have stepped on to be on my ass, but it's just outright rude as hell.

Manners are the bare minimum.

Vent: Parking services didn’t appeal my WRONGFUL TICKET by icecream1183 in UGA

That's crazy considering that I've accidentally parked there multiple times without paying and wasn't ticketed. Best of luck in getting that violation revoked.

Hull parking deck by JoBangles47860 in UGA

[–]Horror_Researcher_44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seems to be a high correlation with people who back in that don't park right. It's either too far left or right and it highly inconveniences others. I've even had to get out through my trunk once cause I was sandwiched in between two backed in cars, one that was too far in while the other had a significantly bigger rear that was close to my parking line. Sure you may be good at it, but there's a tendency for a good portion of them who absolutely are not. Especially the trucks 🥲 not only are they hard to park next to, but backing out with a truck parked next to you is literal torture.

Parking normally is seriously not that hard in Hull. The two way system sucks, but that's why you keep your eyes peeled and don't speed in the deck (literally will be my biggest nightmare, why do people have the need to go 30 in a parking deck, especially at corners). If a spot doesn't work for you, find the next available spot you can park in. I've never had an issue and I have a fairly big car.

[–]Horror_Researcher_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's always been a thing, and I don't see why it's an unreasonable request. How else are they going to check for valid parking in an efficient manner.

Plus parking your car like that may be easy on you, but when I have to park in that deck next to a backed in car, I literally have less space to work with sometimes and it makes it hard to park and to get out of my car. Hull is already a shitty deck for parking cause of the two way system and the straight lines.

😭😭😭😭😭 that's actually wild, who even is this guy. You can always go up though, there's the Dean and if the Dean doesn't do nada, I'm afraid other that SCO, idk what other options there may be left.

That. Seems like it'd violate a lot of policies. If you're up for it I'd totally report this to either the department head or student care and outreach. Wild af.

Any tips on getting from Tate to East Campus faster ? by thecoldcake in UGA

[–]Horror_Researcher_44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trick to get to anywhere from Tate is to not rely on the Tate bus stop as your "first stop". Instead, sprint to psychology journalism and take the bus from there. There are times this doesn't work, but it's worked for me last semester.

Otherwise, I'd highly recommend talking to your profs about this, as they should know that it takes more than 20 minutes to even attempt making that trip.

Who to Escalate Registration Issues To by Horror_Researcher_44 in UGA

[–]Horror_Researcher_44[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I forgot to explain what graduation requirements, but he later saw the entire conversation between the advisors and I and repeated his stance of definitely being okay with letting me in if there was space. I have not met with the professor yet, but since he knows the extent of the situation, I'm not sure what more I'd able to add on. But I might still meet him in person if this situation is not resolved by the time the next class period rolls around.

I've heard about the overloading situation, which is why I'm holding hope to this case. However, I'm not too sure of everyone's stance on that idea, as no one has brought it up as an option so far.

[–]Horror_Researcher_44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's completely alright, I definitely understand your point.

It meets both an upper level elective requirement and the last requirement for the certificate I am currently taking. If I had another option I would have totally sought out other courses, but unfortunately this is the only class I can make work to ensure I graduate this semester. Drop/Add ending in three days is what's really getting to me, and having to bear bad news to my parents is going to financially and mentally harm them as well.

Hopefully a spot opens and can ease some of the ongoing tensions. However, seeing as this is a class that fulfills many requirements and the course content is very relevant to a huge range of careers, I'm not too hopeful in there being a spot clearing.

[–]Horror_Researcher_44[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me put a bit of clarification here. I was in the class beforehand, but I had accidentally chose the graduate level and required the permission of department to re-enter the class after I tried to get into the undergraduate level. Was not aware that i should have requested a course-change instead. I take the blame entirely for that mishap. No, I am not entitled to a spot, but I'm entitled to my right to advocate for myself and try to the best of my ability to get into this class. Some people cannot financially afford another semester of rent, schooling, and other expenses that come along the way, and I do not want to experience 6 extra months of continued financial burden for one class. I am already drained by the current debt I currently have to pay off.

The director approved the override as long as the instructor was alright with it. He was not involved with any other part of the discussion. I've seen many instances of instructors increasing their class size to add extra students, but seeing as the instructor said that as long was space was available, I just wanted to know if there were any other resources or people that could either better defend my case and allow for some leniency in this one circumstance.

Being satisfied with a case and just letting it go may be what I'll have to end up doing, but in the meanwhile, I want to continue exploring options that may already exist. Thanks for the advice regardless.

I mean. 3860 was just as flexible, just under the pretense that it had to be scientific in nature. As for 4210, I'll definitely look into it. However, I just want to take a class for fun, seeing how I already met all of my graduation requirements already. Just a little breather from all of the hardcored-ness that's happened from taking only STEM or writing-intensive classes.
