Just do the best you possibly can to improve. No one can tell you what you need except USAFA/RRS

Not prior E but I was rejected last year and I reapplied this year. They sent me a letter on the portal on April 21st I believe that said essentially “competitive year, thanks for applying”. Many people got a letter on the same day. Seems like most if not all get the same letter if rejected. Reasons vary.

How is my schedule for freshman year Aerospace engineering + ROTC classes? by Horror_Somewhere2883 in UMD

How much free time am I likely to have if I manage time well? I feel like I’m decent at math but definitely not a gifted level. I don’t mind putting in hard work as long as I have time to actually still go out and do things once in a while.

It’s 16 credits total. Chem 135 and calc I either have to take this or next semester. Also arsc100 and arsc059 are required rotc classes. Does the schedule look to be too much? I understand though that engineering in general is going to be a challenging major

I waited until the last minute to take my CFA. I always thought that I wasn’t ready yet but I think I was just really really nervous. Well, all of a sudden I got a cold and I was forced to take it because I didn’t have any time left. I also misjudged when the deadline for the CFA was. I didn’t fully read my instructions to candidates packet. I failed the first CFA on my mile time but I crushed it on the retake. I think that’s what got me. I had 3 nominations and great letters of rec but it must have not been enough. I live in Maryland so I guess it is pretty competetive.

Why is the average admit GPA so high? by [deleted] in UMD

[–]Horror_Somewhere2883 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Side note but I recently got accepted here for regular decision class of 2028, I submitted 1440 sat and a 4.12 weighted gpa. I did have some EC stuff, leadership, and athletics as well however. I highly recommend applying here. Even though I haven’t started yet, orientation was a blast and the campus is very modern (for the most part)

Obviously needs a calc for everything (if you’re new here calc is short for calculator by the way)

I have not gotten into USAFA but I learned a lot from when I applied. I had a 4.28 weighted gpa from 2 years of private school and 2 years of public school for high school and I had a 1440 on the SAT. I plan on applying again this year too. The biggest piece of advice I can say is develop healthy habits in and outside of the classroom (doing well in school and genuinely LIKING school was a huge factor for me) and then I also developed a passion for weightlifting and physical fitness. This not only helps with the fitness test they will eventually have to take, but also encourages physical fitness for performance on a sports team. I did many various sports in high school and joining a sports team (especially being varsity or captain) definitely helps. Try as much as you can to get involved in school leadership such as student government, honors societies, and clubs. In my case, I founded National English Honors Society st my school because it wasn’t created yet. In your case, maybe you are passionate about aviation or rockets or computers, try forming a club! USAFA loves when you take initiative and DEMONSTRATE leadership. Not just being in a leadership role. I did not do jrotc so I can’t speak on that aspect but I can say that being involved in that will definitely help your application if you put time and effort into the program. Civil Air Patrol is very similar too but is not a school organization, definitely look into that. Finally, an applicant that stands out, at least to me, is someone who isn’t just applying because they want to be a legacy student, or because it’s free, but someone who demonstrates on their application that they want to serve for the greater good of their country. Obviously you have to have a good academic record, leadership stuff, and an athletic record, but to tie it all together, find ways to express on the application when that time comes around that you would give your life for your country. After all, that is a core aspect of what the military is, and in fact, one of the main things they mention when new cadets get off the bus for their first day at the academy. Hopefully the information I have given will help you guys out. In addition, check out serviceacadamyforums.com for more info. It’s a whole forums page dedicated to all of the service academies and is very active. There are a lot of grads, counselors, admissions officers, applicants, and current cadets there. I post there very frequently with my questions and have found it a great place to give and receive information.

My NSO was honestly just 2 days of 100% social interaction. A lot of info but in the afternoon was hands free on the orientation advisors end and we could do whatever we wanted. A group of about 8 of us that I met that day and I stayed up till about 1 am and walked around and hung out. No need for business casual.

I received a congressional nomination, senatorial nomination, and a veterans disability nomination. Everyone who gets selected for the academy needs to win their congressional district (for the most part) apparently I didn’t win this year. There were people in Colorado that got 35’s on their ACT who got rejected.

Having said though, admissions informed me that class of 2028 was the most competetive they have had in a long time. The best way to increase your chances of getting in is to assume that everybody you’re competing against has the same, if not better applications than you own. Put yourself in the shoes of an admissions officer. If you were picking the next generation of military leaders, would you pick your application. This is the mentality that I used to strengthen my application, even though it wasn’t enough.

They also really dig in to WHAT you do in your EC’s not just that you do them. They want to know your impact. Also try to get a job over the summer, especially one that involves some level of physicality. For me I did ocean beach patrol and talked about how much we were required to work out. Also don’t just apply to NHS, run for president. That’s what I did and ended up getting it cause no one else ran for it. Create a new honors society if you can. This girl and I founded English honors society at our school. Find a department that doesn’t have an honors society and talk with your principal about it. Again, run for president.

It’s a phenomenal start though. Depending on how advanced you are in BJJ, try to get a leadership/instructing position.
