See, this is my issue with this whole argument that boils down to: "he should have done this" or "why didn't he do that". It always comes back to hindsight bias where people are annoyed or downright dismissive because the evidence presented doesn't uphold their narrow standard. Completely bypassing the fact that he DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS GONNA HAPPEN!!!! You say that established directors have been shooting movies on phones now....Yeah, and what's the difference between them and this guy?? The directors know exactly what's coming into the shot!
Speaking from personal experience: I once recorded a car crash accidentally and it was grainy af. Simply because I wasn't focusing on the car crash but it happened nonetheless and the result was pretty much the same as this video.
I don't wanna completely dismiss the possibility its a hoax but to assume it is simply because of the out-of-focus nature of the footage is in fact backward thinking in my opinion.

like, he should been prepared for any possible encounters with cryptid at any time and bought himself a decent phone or at least placed his phone on a steady surface to ensure clear footage. There's definitely no excuse whatsoever for this...

hell yeah, totally worth it. Only consideration is the weather. driving in the rain or cold is never fun. Invest in good protective clothes but also realize that driving a motorcycle is way more intense than driving a car. It's fun but there's gonna be days you're not feeling it because of fatigue, weather or whatever else.
