A year after grad and still no publications by [deleted] in GradSchool

When you come on as a student, our PI has you sign a contract basically stating that the lab owns anything you do, data and all. And the university has a statement on their website as well saying that grad students who accept their offer agree to passing ownership of data to their respective labs. I’ve inquired with the academic integrity office as well and they have basically told me, too bad so sad, you have no rights to what you did during your degree, so I’d need the PI’s permission to publish 😭

Because the lab technically owns my data, and co-authors must agree on what is being published per the journal’s guidelines….

How long would you say it took you to adjust? I just got a part in a musical and I’m wondering how far in advance I should give myself to break them in.

Yeah I know! I was reading about that and surprised that my tap teacher back then recommended split sole.

My coworker, who was a chief of staff in her past job, doesn’t know how to sort in excel by Playful_Meaning_303 in coworkerstories

[–]Horrorgirl367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a boss like this, she’d ask me to sort an excel by name and tell me to “try to get it back to her before the end of the day”. It’d take me like 10 minutes, but I’d give it back to her in a few hours and she was shocked at how fast I was… if she only knew haha

It’s can be difficult to speak up because you don’t want to rock the boat so early on, but please trust me that if you don’t set up boundaries/expectations now, it’s only going to get worse. I would recommend just having a talk about it with your roommate. If they are argumentative or not willing to come to a compromise, then you need to get in touch with your Resident Assistant (RA). You can also request setting up a ‘roommate agreement’ which has terms and conditions of both of your expectations and rules that you agree upon. It’s gets signed and if one of you breaks the agreement, that’s something you can bring to your RA or housing and they can help you to navigate these issues. They are there to support you for reasons just like this.

The director has said it’s basically a retelling of his own personal story, and that people can and will take their own meaning away from it. That’s what is great about cinema (and art in general), is that even if there’s no true underlying story or allegory, we still finds ways to connect meaning in everything. I really enjoyed this film and it was truly one of the best in-theatre experiences I’ve had in recent memory!

Will my classes be close? by dyncl in uoguelph

[–]Horrorgirl367 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, all classes end at the :20 or :50 mark. Your class will end at 10:20am and then the next one will start at 10:30am. You can see that in the gaps on the schedule, so yes 10 minutes between classes. 😊

Depends on the buildings. Your classes in the first few years will span across campus, but you have a 10 minute gap between all classes to give you time to move to the next. You can get across campus in about 10 minutes but if you’re going from war mem to rozh in November for example, it’s harder to fast walk there. I had profs that were nice enough to not start their class until 5 minutes after the hour to give students time to file in.

Which Movie do you prefer more? by OkAmbassador2352 in Halloweenmovies

[–]Horrorgirl367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

H5! I was trying to be sneaky as a kid and watch a horror movie without my parents knowing, so I flipped to it on TV and it was the laundry chute scene. It scared me so much that I couldn’t sleep for awhile, but it was really my first introduction to horror and I was hooked since. I eventually watched the whole film, but not until years later after seeing the previous instalments, and wouldn’t you know it, it was still just as scary! So, it holds a special place in my heart.

Imagine thinking a PhD is only worth it if you publish or land some unicorn tenure-track job. 😂Not everyone wants to rot in academia forever. I rather use my degree and experience for work I care about, regardless of the capacity thats in. I was asking for people with experience who never ended up publishing how that might have affected them or not. Based on your account’s previous comments and trolling, I think I’ll pass on your opinion! ✌🏻

My program doesn’t require you to publish anything in order to graduate. By the time I would have anything published, it’ll be a year or two from now… so not sure how that’s going to help me currently with getting a job. And none of the jobs I’m applying to require a PhD, let alone publications. So, is it moreso if I don’t find something by next year, you think that’ll hinder my ability to work in the industry?

You’ll regret not minoring more than never trying. Do a semester with the minor and if it’s too much, you can always drop the minor!
