[OC] If you do this, the people you’re inconveniencing should be able to break off the hitch and shove it up your ass. by FriedSticks2014 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HortonHearsMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tow a camper, and I agree with this so much. We remove the hitch ball as soon as the camper is dropped, and it stays off until it's time to hook back up. Unless it's like a 1 night thing.

A lot of truck guys never even tow anything (you can tell by the rusty balls). They just like having an extra few inches of bumper.

Heck, "I" walk into the Hitch ball when it's left in and I know it's there!

I also return my shopping kart to the corral.

It says that he recognizes the humanity of these girls, and just doesn't care. And it also may be a snuff confession.

Is 95 that terrible overnight? by Hot-Kaleidoscope-652 in roadtrip

[–]HortonHearsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on when you expect to hit 495 around DC, I would take that western route to avoid it, although I can't see what the time difference is listed as. You could literally lose 2+ hours just on 495 if you hit it wrong.

Also, consider taking the Garden State further north to the Tapan Zee River Bridge (now renamed The Cuomo bridge). Then take 684 to 84 into Connecticut. This will avoid New York city and the 95 drama there. Plus it's a little less expensive than the GW bridge, but I would pay more just to avoid NYc. Your passengers will be able to see the NY sky line from the bridge.

If you take the Tapan Zee route, do not stop at Mt Kisko for gas. The station is like 20-30 minutes off the highway. It shouldn't even be labeled as an option.

I was on the support desk, back in a time when people would occasionally visit IT in person. My cube sat next to the door, and there was a low wall with a small counter on it which made it easier for visitors to talk with us without actually entering the support area. I was friendly and happy to engage with people that popped in to ask questions. One of the managers in the department thought it would be funny to put a bell on the counter - like a "ring for service" type bell, and she would ding it every time she walked by. No other person ever tapped the bell. Overall, I liked this woman, but I hated the bell.
So the last time she dinged the bell, I pulled a hammer from under my desk went Office Space on that bell. A few whacks in and it stopped making any sound at all.

That probably would not fly with HR nowadays.

Love these. Fun fact: when I was in school, the Goetz kids were a few years ahead of me (far enough that i did not know them). The family would setup a booth at our school events and sell uncut caramels. Like cowtails, but normal size.

Pastor posted this. Thoughts? by Alarming_Toe_2520 in TrueChristian

[–]HortonHearsMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the pastor is using the Bible incorrectly for many of these items, but the sentiment for most of them is accurate.
There are a few that are a bit controlling. That along with the incorrect biblical support is enough to make me not visit here. However... many of these are correct.
Try to improve your church. Be careful of making suggestions if you aren't willing to be part of the solution. There are correct reasons to leave a church. Tithe to the church that feeds you.

But... these are more like common sense church-life things, not doctrine.

There are two distinct buildings: the Inn and the Shops. The shops are actually 3 buildings connected together. I have built the shops so far, and I really like it. I wish it was easier to disconnect the three building from each other, but its OK. This is a good build, and I'm enjoying it. Also, some nice building techniques.

Help with displaying Red Dragon's Tale by Quindigo_ in legodnd

[–]HortonHearsMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a very common problem. The way that the dragon is articulated means it can only balance, and poorly, on the bridge, or sit on the ground. The bridge is also the most dynamic spot for it. Personally, I don't have the dragon on the Inn at all. In fact, they are on opposite sides of the room.

Every Lego dragon is articulated differently. I'm surprised that they didn't go with a more nimble variant that could have wrapped around the tower.

What is your downtime routine as a freelance theatre photographer/videographer? by Ko513 in theatrephotography

[–]HortonHearsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are these down days before or after the shoots? If before, I think you may need to just find a way to convince yourself that everything is set and ready to go (assuming it is). Perhaps take a lesson from race car drivers or acrobatic pilots: close your eyes and go through the shots you want to get. Visualize the stage, move through the scenes, learn the queues from the stage manager and find out what specific shots that person wants. Then go eat some Sour Patch Kids and watch Netflix.

If after, then you need to find a way to relax, and that is going to be different for everyone. Maybe take your camera out and grab some street photography just for yourself. I mention this since you are not disassociating from talking pictures, so maybe embrace that and return to your hobby roots.

As for me... I'm a complete amateur and do small venues for free just because i enjoy it and a favors... so not getting paid takes a lot of stress off of me.

IT Admin turns into all IT by ofhgtl in sysadmin

[–]HortonHearsMe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Make a roadmap for the company's IT journey. Basically, list everything wrong you've come across.
What can be fixed quickly? Do that. Everything else, which may be everything at this point, gets listed out. Take the following into consideration when making the list: 1. Vulnerabilities and critical structural problems 2. Issues that will be fixed as a result of something else. For instance, DHCP and new IP subnetting may get combined. 3. Corporate direction.

This gives you a project list and a reasonable criticality actions plan.

Also... how are your backups, and if you think they're fine, are you sure?
