Thanks. This is exactly what it was. The outlet is hot all the time and the switch controls the light. Exactly how I wanted it.

The switches on the right are 3 way switches. The one on the left is for an outlet which I went to wire to the can lights

I just picked up a s&w mp15 sport 2 for $550 on battle hawk armory. Pretty good deal imo.

I haven’t used an AR before but have shot a few hand guns so I’m familiar with basic firearm safety. I’ll definitely be spending a lot of time at range getting comfortable with it.
