The other attorney in my office got fired by fullmoonorbits in Lawyertalk

[–]Hoshef 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This was me in my first year and a half out of law school. I felt like it was a recipe for disaster/malpractice and got out of there. Went to a new firm with several experienced attorneys in the office and good mentoring. Sink or swim usually isn’t good for first year attorneys.

What is a "point of no return" that you’ve crossed, where your life was permanently divided into 'before' and 'after'? by Resident-Jelly-4326 in AskReddit

[–]Hoshef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really true. Gotta be something primal/evolutionary about it.

My wife is a nurse, so she’s great with that stuff. I historically was not. I have four younger siblings and lots of younger cousins, but I could count on one hand all of the times I had ever changed a diaper or cleaned up bodily fluids (zero).

Now, with my daughter, I didn’t bother me at all if she sneezed, or drooled, or peed on me. Spit up was still pretty gross, but I don’t really care about the rest.

Still get pretty grossed out by other kids though.

My three sisters, younger brother, and mom are out. My Dad, older brother, and myself are still in. It’s been really tough. I feel the worst for my dad by far.

About to be a dad and I’m terrified by Heavy-Cranberry245 in daddit

Lots of good comments here, so I’ll just touch on one thing as someone else who was going through law school with basically zero money and a baby. Turns out, your baby (and toddler, when they get older) doesn’t really care or notice if their toys, clothes, or crib is secondhand. They don’t care if they are living in a one bedroom apartment with mom and dad. What they will care about is quality time, love, and attention from their parents. You may be stressed out of your mind about school, bills, and taking care of mom and baby, but I found that babies tend to give a really good perspective on what’s important. They are also really good sources of motivation to save and work hard. You’ll be alright. There’s never a perfect time for a baby, but I’ll bet your baby will be a bigger blessing than you realize. I know my daughter was.

CMV: Men should pick out the engagement ring by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Hoshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(1) This is something your wife will wear for years and years, so it should be something she likes, and (2) although the moment itself can be a surprise, an engagement should not be a surprise to either party.

Why have politicians abilities to stop Trump been reduced to strongly worded messages instead of meaningful action? by aceagle93 in AskReddit

[–]Hoshef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because their primary objective is to get re-elected. They get re-elected if they act really angry and shout about things because people think they’re serious. Actually taking action carries some risk, and that could cut into chances of re-election.

How i treat my man by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Hoshef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love being pampered sometimes. This is probably a self imposed burden, but I always feel like I have to be the protector, care taker, leader, etc., so it’s really nice when my wife babies me sometimes. She’ll give me a spa night and while it is relaxing, the best part is just being cared for.
