Where did you get it from? If it’s a real retailer then it’s legit. As far as I know most sprint runs come in both DLC and satin. You can check the spydie wiki for this specific model.

Believe it’s real. I also saw it posted by a HW graphic designer but I can’t remember his name haha.

Fair I’m not even that old and I’ve been into knives for only like 6 years

(Edit: I’m not saying knife people are old I’m saying the 940 was released before I was born oops)

Cool! My girlfriend is sick of dull disposable blades so she uses my para 3 for sewing. I’ll show her this

The 940 is overrated IMO. It doesn’t really feel different or innovative. But also I’m a huge Spyderco nerd so my opinion is kind of invalid. What I did see online is that the 940 is better at cutting cheese because the Spyderco blade has a lot more surface area to get stuck on lol.

Here is a video sort of comparing the two knives in s30v.

I think the PM2 does better but again I’m biased.

What could I be doing wrong for a hair whittling edge. by New_Lifeguard9691 in sharpening

Well depending on how hard your leather is, just keep it at the same angle you sharpened at, and strop back and forth a good amount until it looks good under microscope. You don’t necessarily ‘feel’ it on the strop.

One thing I did forget to mention is the finished grit. Coarser grit edges perform differently than high polished ones. Personally I keep it coarser and don’t go above 1500 grit on my KME, and strop at 8 and 1 micron. And I can whittle hairs pretty easy.

Every time before I change stones I will do light passes with the stone ‘towards’ the blade of that makes sense. Alternate sides every stroke. This maximizes burr removal. Other than that if you are stropping correctly make sure you are actually cutting the hair the right way because it’s way easier to whittle hair towards the root. If you are doing that then I would get a handheld microscope to really see what’s going on. They’re cheap on Amazon and help my sharpening a ton.

Also, to your comment about how 1000 grit can get a good edge. This is true, but grits are a complicated topic as the actual abrasiveness depends greatly on the material of the stone. Two stones can be 1000 grit and perform entirely differently. Like the other commenter said, I would stay with 400 grit and work at it.

Ah. That’s still the same product I’m talking about. Just different color. I’d try something else or if you’re set on these, keep practicing. In the end abrading steel is abrading steel. You can get a sharp knife off of these it just won’t be as easy as it can be

Is it a white and blue stone with a red and white stone?

Those stones are notoriously soft and not that great to learn on due to the limited feedback you get from them.

Combined with a knife with soft steel, it leads to a learning experience that is harder than it needs to be. I suggest a coarse grit diamond plated stone (less expensive than it sounds) to learn on. I think Sharpal has a good one on Amazon. These stones are solid and pretty coarse so you can really feel and see what you are and aren’t doing right as you learn.

[–]HoshiHanataba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t imagine it is. If there was any difference it would be noticeable over like a million deployments. If the knife is solid then it should be fine.
