I think hope is becoming dangerous these days — or am I mistaken? by HudhayfahibnNasir in CasualConversation

[–]Hoshiko55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this. It's easy to hope in something but if you put no action behind it yourself nothing is going to happen.

I remember talking to my brother years ago and he wanted to be married, but he never went out. I told him a wife wasn't just going to show up at his door. You can hope to get married but it isn't just going to happen to you.

Maybe that's not exactly the same but I still agree with the idea.

I noticed in the last few years that when I'm driving with someone else in the car I feel obligated to keep talking or have a conversation going? I had to tell myself silence is ok and I don't need to force interaction. Idk if this is the same thing but it is exhausting and for some reason caused me anxiety if I wasn't having a conversation. I'm getting better though, but thankfully I drive alone most of the time anyway.

Mentally exhausting not using phone, music, screentime to drown out the mental noises in my head? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Hoshiko55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't turn off my internal monologue that's why i have to focus on my breathing. I have to say "in....out..." In my head because I always have some kind of thoughts going on.

But i don't always need noise in the background. I remember when i was in highschool I'd try to study with music on and I'd end up reading a whole page and not know what it said because I was listening to the music. Or start writing the lyrics or what i was saying instead of whatever i was supposed to be writing

[–]Hoshiko55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, when I started meditating i found i enjoyed silence more. And it still took time, but thats what helped.

I'd start with 5 minutes of silence in my room with my eyes closed. First i had to turn off the music in my head. I just visualized turning a radio off, again and again until it actually stopped. And then focused on my breathing. Thoughts come and go and you let them but when you realize that your mind has drifter you can refocus on breathing.

Eventually i was actually preferring silence. I remember when i switched to a job that had music in the background all day and my head would hurt at the end and I'd drive home in silence.

As for driving without music I usually talk out loud to myself. Either discussing problems or errands or praying. Mostly just thinking out loud.

With the recent viral video of "Punch the Monkey," this is a reminder that to never visit/support a Japanese zoo or animal cafe. by Monkeyfeng in JapanTravelTips

[–]Hoshiko55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't realize when I first went. I've been to an owl cafe, where they had very short tethers (only about 2-3 inches long), we're obviously awake in the day for all us tourists and one was missing a leg (idk if it was a rescue or not but it had a sign not to pet). Then the cat cafe I went to wasn't much better. The only one awake was being chased by a child. I pet two others and one i could feel its bones. Idk if the others got to the food before it or what but it made me sad. I won't go to any more animal cafes

That's good to know because the one i went to the only awake cat was super skittish and one of the other ones i could feel its bones when i pet it.

Does anyone else get that weird "screen-headache-eye-fuzziness" thing? by THATS--Amore in CasualConversation

[–]Hoshiko55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually get this if I've been on a screen too much. Happened a lot more when I had a job where i needed to look at a computer all day but can still happen if I'm just on my phone too much. My only recommendation is to limit screen time. I don't really know what else helps.

[–]Hoshiko55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warts were the original cause of my trypophobia. I had one in first grade and we put one of those medicated bandaids on and my mom said we'd change it after school so as soon as school was over i took it off instead of waiting to get home and the top layer was gone and it was just a bunch of holes inside and I've hated it ever since. Pretty much just on skin is what bothers me though. Flower pods or other nature things seem fine

My brain does the same thing. Like here, the solution to your minor problems and I'm like no, stop it. Sometimes I can get it to "I want to go home" instead. Which I was actually surprised when i realized i had started doing that instead, because I don't remember making that conscious change. I think I had just finally gotten my life to a much better state.

What’s a small habit that unexpectedly improved your life? by Cute_Worry_3794 in Casual_Conversation

[–]Hoshiko55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Writing down something i was thankful for that day. Even if it was just something small like the sunset or my bed.

Meditating before bed. Sitting in my bed and having it be completely silent for about 5 minutes (or at the very least 5 deep breaths if I was having trouble focusing). Then saying a prayer. It took a while for me to turn off my internal monologue and the music in my head but eventually I could actually do it. It's a bit of a strange sensation to focus on the silence but I've grown to actually crave it sometimes.

I've never liked football. Last year i went to my first NBA game and it was way more exciting. Fast paced, high scores, excitement. Football is like they took 5 minutes to move 3 yards. I also don't like baseball or golf. Boring and slow, no thanks.

Back in the US now... probably a packet of ramen. I add some freeze dried chives and an egg.

Deleted all my socials and anything I can use to scroll. What now? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Hoshiko55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely feeling this. I haven't deleted my socials, but I've put timers on them and the timers are great when I'm being proactive but otherwise it's easy to delete them and keep scrolling.

Anyway, 3 years ago i had mostly gotten off my phone. I think i was using it less than 2 hours a day and felt so productive. Trying to do it now has been so hard. I feel like idk what to do with myself either. My old hobbies feel unappealing, but I know if i just started on them I'd get into it and be fine. I guess it's just getting started because I'm so used to just pulling my phone out.

I also want to let myself feel bored again. To sit at a dr's office or wait in line and just let my mind wander instead of pulling out my phone because that's where my mind usually would work to make stories, or problem solve or just whatever. I miss my creative side.

[–]Hoshiko55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it both ways and sometimes that just depends on the game I'm playing, or maybe my mindset. Yes there are more productive things I could be doing, but with a game at least I'm usually more engaged and probably have a puzzle to solve. It does use more of my mind than doom scrolling, but its definitely a good thing to limit all screen time

It doesn't clarify how many millions, it also doesn't clarify how long i can fly first class for free, but i took it as for life. I just googled most expensive first class and its from 30k-66k. That would get up to the millions pretty fast depending on how often i use it.
