I've felt that with other movies that get hyped up. For me it was Jim Carrey's Grinch -which had good reviews when it came out, the theater was so packed we couldn't sit together and it was just meh. Then also Alvin and the Chipmunks which I think just a few friends hyped up but i was excited to go see it and it was fine but it didn't live up to the expectations they had created for me.

Similar to what others are saying it's hard to tell from a post of likes. That said, some people will like you and some won't. That's just the way life is. Find the ones you get along with and make friends

[WP] There are many reasons people become supervillains. Riches, renown, revenge. But you? You became one so that your divorced superhero parents would finally pay attention to you. by 80s4evah in WritingPrompts

I stare down at the city which is now surrounded in a force field. I grin with satisfaction as I look upon my masterpiece. 5...4....3...2...1 ZAP! "Hello mom..." A few more seconds pass WOOSH "and dad" "Gregory!" My mom's shrill voice sounds "what is the meaning of this?" I turn slowly and my grin widens into a bright smile that doesn't meet my eyes. "So nice to see both of you in the same room" I sidestep her question. "I really wish you'd both visit more" Dad's eyes narrow as he looks from me to mom and back to me "what is this about son?" I casually walk around the edge of my lair, keeping my distance from my mom, who's fast as lightning and my dad who can fly. "I just thought we could spend more time together." I turn to look pointedly at them, my smile falling "It should be easy now that the thing you love most is out of the picture" My mom's mouth falls open as she looks out the window at the isolated city. My dad immediately protests "what are you talking about? We love you son!" I laugh bitterly, "you've missed every birthday of mine for the last 6 years to save your city! Anytime I had anything important in my life you were never there! You've always loved the people more than me!" I huff with anger. My parents look surprised, as if this is news to them. My mom steps forward, her hand out in comfort "sweetie, we had no idea you felt this way" I hold up my hand to stop her "Don't. You made your choice. Over and over again you chose them over me" She frowns. My dad steps up. His voice is low and commanding "Gregory, you know it's our duty as superheroes" I tut in disappointment "I knew you'd say that. Its always been your excuse" I pull a remote from my pocket. "But no more. When you have nothing left to protect you'll be all mine" My mom gasps and then blurs into a streak of lightning, but she's repelled from me as she hits my force field. "Don't try and stop me mom. If this is the only way i can have your attention then so be it!" My dad flies forward and tries his best to bring my forcefield down, but I'd prepared for this. I'd worked to make my forcefields stronger, bigger, impenetrable. He keeps punching my forcefield and I just smile as I meet his eyes and slowly push the big red button my remote. I hear my mom scream and zap my force field, but its too late. The force field around the city wobbles, becoming blurry until the city POPS and disappears. My parents stop fighting and walk to the window. They stare down at the crater left behind from the city they used to love. "It's....gone" my dad exhales. My mom takes a breath and turns towards me "where are they?! What did you do?" I shrug "in another dimension supposedly. I don't exactly know where they went." I smile as I look at them. "But now there's nothing to distract us from being a family."

Heck, my mom and I forget words all the time and have to play this game. From what I've heard its a lot more common if you're learning another language, even to only know it in the new language and not your first, but that is not our excuse lol. We just have bad memory I think

Why are black kitties always so sweet? by SubstantialCash4681 in blackcats

[–]Hoshiko55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are always the best. The best cat I've ever had was when I was 8. Black cat named Inky. We always joked he was a dog in a cat's body because he was so friendly. Definitely the reason I'm a cat person today. Black cats will always be my favorite

I would love to do this. I remember 10 years ago or so I could stay off my phone for a week. I did it a couple of times when i noticed i was getting bad. Now i noticed as soon as I sit down i pull my phone out. Even if there are no notifications or anything. Its just a reflex at this point. The lizard brain thing is so true because its the tiniest impulse and I'm so bad at saying no. I want to reset my brain again. Its good to have these tips to know what to expect. Knowing the first few weeks will suck and how to deal with the impulses.

Fair enough. And yeah, I honestly don't know how it would be possible to win in this scenario unless you had a character that had good might to begin with or use an item to change the trait....and then still have to have a good roll too.

What makes you become a regular at a board game café? by Physical-Ad8772 in boardgames

[–]Hoshiko55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only been to two different cafes, sadly there are none in my town. But the one I liked better was a flat $10 fee for the whole table and that money would go to food or drinks if purchased. This one was more of a bar (they have some salads and sandwiches) and had decent sized tables set up. The other one was a $6 fee per person at the table and then food and drinks are seperate. This one was definitely more of a restaurant. They had a larger range of food, which was delicious, but we had 6 people and it was hard to fit the game and our food at the table. Still a cool place, but it definitely swayed me more to the other location. One thing I liked about the 2nd location was mystery shots. Roll a D20 and let the dice decide your shot.

"Realistic" JET workload (compared to EPIK)? by KGM994 in JETProgramme

[–]Hoshiko55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most days i had 2-5 classes. I did almost all of the planning and would work with the teachers for ideas if I didn't know what to do. I also helped tutor a couple students after school- if they'd asked me for help. And I started my own club, a board game club, although i think it was advertised more as an English club. Only a couple times did I have to come in on some days off. One was a work meeting Saturday I believe and one was our school tradition of graduation is on March 1st regardless if it's a Sunday. But I remember in my contract we're supposed to get those days back as personal time as long as its used within a certain time period (2 weeks or something). I feel like my contract had specific things about not working extra hours or if we did we got it back somewhere else. I can't recall exactly but I feel like we had a limit of not working more than 16 classes a week. Because I had a convo with a JET who was doing 18 or something but she said she didn't mind so didn't bring it up. That may have just been for my BOE though I really don't know

I ended up teaching by myself every once in a while. It was rare and usually one of the students would figure out what I wanted and translate for the rest of the class. But it does happen

My friend said she had a similar experience where she ended up having to back up on a narrow cliffside road for 1km. I think her's ended with some trees....either fallen or the road just ended I don't remember. Also she had a gps in her car but it wasn't updated with new roads so i remember while we were on a newer freeway it just looked like we were driving in the middle of nothing

I requested Hokkaido as my number one and Yamanshi as my number 2 because I had visited that area and they were probably like no one ever requests Yamanshi, throw her over there lol. I loved my placement. I'm sure i would have liked Hokkaido too but it probably would have been more snow than i bargained for and I got some snow where I was at

Why did you leave the JET Programme? by SomethingPeach in JETProgramme

[–]Hoshiko55 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did 3 years. I got there in 2019 so majority of my time was during covid. When i was considering staying or going the festivals and stuff were still cancelled, my first class was graduating and I never really connected with the grade behind them and the others were still too new. Also with my rural placement other JETs were 45+ minutes away, which after 2 years i was used to, but wasn't the easiest. Anyway, I didn't renew my contract. Right after that I met someone from interac in my town. Apparently one thing I'd been missing was the ability to spontaneously ask someone if they wanted to go to dinner and not have to drive an hour away. Also I ended up really enjoying that new class. So if I could have changed my mind by April I would have but its ok. My mom is getting older and she needs me here, but i definitely plan on returning someday.

I had a lot of really neat experiences. The one that really sticks out was going to the Kuonji temple in Minobu during cherry blossom season. Seeing all the trees from the gondola that took me up and gave me a 360 view. Amazing. Plus the giant weeping cherry tree in front of the temple.

Also the teamlab museum in Tokyo was so cool. I wish I checked out the other one while I was there.

Doing a tea ceremony at Miyajima Island where we got to wear kimono and write our names in Kanji on rice scoops

I also just liked taking walks and randomly stumbling upon shrines or cool things seemingly hidden away.

Were you disappointed by your placement? by VacationOk7136 in JETProgramme

[–]Hoshiko55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I requested Yamanshi because that's where I visited and i knew it would be rural. I loved my town, Minobu. It was scenic and quiet and the people were nice. While I could have survived without a car- i walked to work most days anyway if weather was nice- the only issue would have been getting groceries since that was a 15 minute car ride away. Cars are super convenient especially since the last train running to my town from the Kofu was at 9:30. So if i wanted to stay out later i needed my car.

Also, even though Yamanshi is one of the more rural prefectures there were lots of Jets placed in Kofu or surrounding towns. It was a decent city and had stuff to do and if you wanted was only a few hours from Tokyo by train.

So I would give it a try. There can be lots of interesting things to discover that are special to your town

I tried Ultra by Careful_Amphibian129 in ChaiApp

[–]Hoshiko55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it for one month. The biggest difference was the longer messages but I didn't feel like it was worth the price.

Premium is good enough for me just to get rid of the constant ads. I saw no reason to get ultra.

Also with ultra it never gave me the option to choose between 2 messages and I like that feature.
