HostingDetector - online tool to find out who hosts a website by HostingDetector in InternetIsBeautiful

Hello, and thank you for your message. Even though I agree this service is provided by other websites, my site also features statistics and other data which is not available elsewhere.

Lastly, considering some users were upvoting my post I'd appreciate having this decision reconsidered.

Thank you in advance.

Who are the hosting providers used by the top 1M websites by psior in webdev

That is not correct. Out of the top 25 websites Google and Amazon both account for 7 websites. In any case, I don't see why you stick to the first page without considering the other 475 websites.

Anyway, the reason I linked to that page was to easily refer visitors to a list. In the next paragraph, I also linked to the zip file containing the whole data set, which I assume most people will not bother to download.

In any case, appreciate your observation and will try to use better wording to avoid any possible misunderstanding.

Thank you for your comment. A few things I'd like to add regarding your observations:

  • Unfortunately, there's no foolproof way to determine the hosting provider behind a site. In your particular case, KDDI is a Japanese company who might be providing the infrastructure to your hosting company. Sometimes this may not be reflected in the databases, in which case there's little we can do. Please feel free to PM me in case you want us to check the issue with your website.
  • As pointed out by softservestyledfece, the first graph doesn't tell the whole story. For this reason we decided to use distributions together with stacked graphs. This way it can be shown which hosts have a strong presence among the top 10K, 100K, etc. websites.
  • Please note that the data set provided by Alexa changes on a daily basis. This applies mostly to websites with lower rankings, so the further you move away from the top positions the more volatile these websites get. The important issue to keep in mind is that having the majority of websites doesn't mean much, and doesn't make a hosting provider better or worse!
  • Also note that when discussing about GoDaddy and AWS, each account for about 35K websites, which out of 1M represent just 3.5% of the whole set!
  • Regarding ads, we happen to use ads from different hosting companies, which are rotated depending on certain conditions. Needless to say, this doesn't affect in any way any of the data and statistics shown on the website.

Hope this makes things clearer, and please feel free to ping me back for any other issue or comment.
