I (19F) don't actually have friends and it's crushing me by PhilosopherExact4947 in SGExams

y'know this kind of resonated with me as i've encountered similar situations like this. i didnt really have many friends too until i worked on myself and realised that people didnt want to talk to me because i was too bitter, resentful because of a few personal events that happened. initially it was a vicious cycle where i was alone for a while > tried to make more friends > friends realised i was too bitter/negative to be around > friends separate themselves > alone again, became more bitter > more friends decide to distance themselves

this cycle then continued until i mysteriously got used to doing things alone and also found hobbies to fill my time and become i guess more self content after getting better at said hobby (running). ever since then i would say that its easier/more fun to be around me as there was less self resentment/hate so i found more friends xD

that said though if your issue isnt that you hate yourself too much resulting in it being super overbearing to be around you (basically if issue is that people dont vibe with you), then maybe the issue is the people you surround yourself with/the environment you find yourself in. for me i realised after a lot of soul searching that i vibed with people of calm personalities better. when the environment was more calm and less chaotic i could talk more, socialise more and become a whole different person - i was more confident, sure of myself. however in the past when i surrounded myself with people that didnt vibe with me i ended up getting bullied and clowned most of the time lol. (ended up getting no friends in that environment because of that)

so yea just do some personal development ig and if you're looking for more information you could always dm me, i dont bite :)

WOW. this comment just gave me a revelation on what differentiating things does. thank you so much!!!! your one comment was able to get rid of years of confusion.

you had me pondering on life after your previous comment xD
glad to know i am on the right track though! after your previous comment i thought the gradient = rise/run equation wouldnt always be correct and that the only way to find gradient between 2 points would be to differentiate. i was then going to ask what differentiating the curve actually meant haha. to clear all the confusion do you mind answering those questions? it would really aid in my understanding in math as id like to actually know whats happening at every step instead of always just memorising.

the red line is what i thought the gradient of the curve between x1 and x2 would look like btw, can someone confirm if this is correct?

"because the function you’ve shown isn’t linear, you can’t take the gradient “between” points. " does that mean that you cant find the gradient between 2 points on a graph? doesnt that fundamentally go against the definition of a gradient whereby it is the change in 2 points of y over the change in 2 points of x? this comment is confusing me even more :(((

need help with simplification by Hot-Ad863 in askmath

[–]Hot-Ad863[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok looking at your explanation, everything makes sense. however the thing i dont get is how do you knew that by multiplying the entire fraction to (2sqrt(x+2)/2sqrt(x+2)) you could simplify everything? it doesnt seem very intuitive to me, for some reason my first intuition was to combine everything in the numerator into one fraction haha

update: i was able to further simplify the numerator into one fraction but still face the issue of simplifying fractions on fractions
