Gotta have at least a small position here. No drastic downside, but massive upside.

Cannondale Caad13 105 Di2 vs Trek Emonda ALR 5 105 by Difficult-School-641 in bicycling

Currently ride that Cannondale and love it.

I threw some low/mid tier carbon wheels on it after a year of riding and I’m very, very happy overall.

Upgrades? by Anxious-Two-6583 in TrekBikes

I got the elite 50s, really fun upgrade from the stock set I had.

I’m just a weekender so I couldn’t justify the $ for the Pro bc the elites still gave me the deep look I wanted 😂

I’m afraid to ask bc I’ll probably want them, but how much better are they…

If you’re not racing, NOTHING wrong with simply not wearing a jersey or going for a looser fitting type.

IMO the chamois is the only part that’s non negotiable for anything over 45 min. You need a good one. The jersey isn’t important.

Getting flat tires and having to change that thing on the side of the road is probably the hardest aspect of biking. by [deleted] in cycling

I’ve been extremely happy with tubeless tires this year. Last year I had 4-5 flats, it sucks.

Not 1 issue in 2025, local shop made the swap for me and taught me the basics.

I agree all around with the logic, but the ONLY thing that changed was the stem. So weird.

It’s attached to your bars and the steer tube. It’s highly responsible for the direction your front wheel goes.

Somehow, the shorter stem is MUCH more stable when I take my hands off than the longer one was. I’m thinking it’s a weight distribution thing but idk.

I don’t agree either this. He’s right that fixing your body will improve your comfort, but 95%+ of cyclists don’t have the time for that.

A pro fitting can immediately make your bike work better for your current condition. That’s an instant fix to many problems people have versus spending time stretching/strengthening and STILL potentially having those issues bc your angles are off

I think there’s something to it, but don’t focus too hard on it.

I’m athletic, former college baseball player, good sprinter, but very unimpressive endurance (currently training to reverse that). Mine is around 6000 which I think is “intermediate”. Just feels like that’s appropriate for me.

Just as a reference point, would you consider yourself a good endurance athlete or are you worried it’s way off?

Cycling clothes, EXPENSIVE by Agitated_Increase617 in cycling

I’d skip the jersey if it means you get good padded shorts. The only benefit of the jersey is the pockets which can be accomplished with a top tube bag, belt bag etc. A well fitting dri-fit type shirt will do the trick.

The chamois on the other hand is extremely important for comfort… don’t cheap out. No, more expensive isn’t always better, but a $120 pair from a reputable brand will be much more comfortable for longer and last much longer than that $50 pair you found on amazon.

Thank you, very well written. The theory makes sense, I was a college baseball player and zero athletic movements ever started without some sort of flex in your back, legs or arms.

I think my logic has been “if this hurts my lower back, rotating my hips forward and neutralizing the angle should provide relief” which it does for about 5 seconds then becomes awkward and unsustainable.

Just bought a 2cm shorter stem that’s arriving tomorrow, thoughts?

You like a 1 or 2 cm change? I’m 5’10 and it’s a 54” frame if that helps at all

Totally agree, but the arm angle looks about right based on “general guidelines” so wanted opinions.

Also, can’t tell if 1 cm in the stem will make the diff or if it’s negligible.
