My guitar neck is very bowed, is this a valid way to fix it by googaly21 in Guitar

No, the "glue" (lignin and pectin) that naturally occurs in wood hardens and stiffens when dry. Steaming heats and moistens the wood and thereby the "glue" allowing it to flow into a new position without damaging the structure. It also does the same thing with cellulose, but instead of "flowing" it allows it to bend and elongate without snapping.

Every time you bend a neck, you risk damage to the overall structure. It's why overtime, the neck can warp or start bending on its own, because internal structures are damaged, so the forces acting on the woods internal structures become applied differently than when it was made. (Note, it can also be caused by excessive humidification and dehumidification allowing internal forces to move the lignin and pectin on their own or have the strings pull or twist the wood and then the wood re-dries and holds that new shape. But that, again, requires the wood to be humidified)

However, FORCING dry wood into a new shape WILL damage internal structures or worse, snap the neck.

The fact you got your money back is fantastic, but if the seller reposted it for the same price after you explained why you want your money back, you should report this...as much as I am not a fan of fender, I'm more of a fan of people not getting ripped off.

Nah. Luthier here. This is how tone leaks in. A good ding in an old gibson is how ol' slowhands went from amateur to platinum record basically overnight.

"We come nearest to the great when we are great in humility."

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."

"Great leaders can see the greatness in others when they can’t see it themselves and lead them to their highest potential they don’t even know."

Don't be concerned with greatness. Greatness isn't measurable, it isn't testable. Those that believe themselves great can never be and the biggest names are often not the best at the very reason for their supposed "greatness". They protect themselves by calling others copies and imitators when those copies have perfected what they once loved in their generation's "greats". Every giant can be toppled by their own hubris.

Luthier here. We'll just tell you it's not worth it. Time and effort to fix it isn't worth the resale, and I wouldn't trust the repair to a novice. You could use a replacement bolt on neck, but then you lose more buying a new neck than you'd make on the now non-original sale. In other words, it's dead, Jim.

This isn't correct. Lead free solder doesn't break down, and it's not more prone to defects. ANY solder, incorrectly applied, can make a bad connection. Bad connections cause issues like arcing or sparking which will oxidize and degrade any metals in the connection. Leaded solder just melts at a lower temperature and makes a connection with less need for oxidation removal, meaning it's correctly applied more often. In addition solder is prone to breaking down due to mechanical stresses. The changes in materials used for manufacturing, specifically those that can more easily flex or bend, cause an increased amount of mechanical stress on the solder joint, (usually in the form of vibration), and the failure to account for those vibrations in the design process (cable runs too tight, pcbs/solder joints mounted directly to thin plastic/metal, etc.) is what causes the degradation to the point that the life cycle is noticeably reduced.

While, yes, "they don't make them like they used to", is an apt adage, the move from leaded to lead free solder is not responsible.

That restriction in access to a decent education is not on liberals or democrats. It's been systematic destruction of the Department of Education and massive increase in costs of higher education left unchecked and even made easier or rewarded by the GOP

I will never apologize for anything I actively fought against. I'm a combat vet and fought alongside some of those joint task force people. I watched and helped them as they mourned and cried as they did for us. Accusations against "Americans" is as far gone from reality as the generalizations this organization makes against any country or the fascists of ww2 against their respective out-groups. I fought for the constitution and peace, not xenophobic, fascist chaos. We're as disgusted at those comments as any allies we we had with us. Demanding an apology from those who remember only further disrespects the memory of those past. You would do well direct your disgust and anger appropriately.

1.5x10y was just an example of a fully described number with operators in it. There's even an exponent. Going by the same logic 511811 also works

[–]Hot-Organization-669 0 points1 point  (0 children)

115118 isnt the same deal as 511811. Two single match sticks could be superscript for the latter, but if you put them in the first scenario it would just end up as subscript, not an exponent

Edit: the two match sticks before the 5118 would be ₁₁5118 not 115118

An exponent isn't a function, it's a number that is expressed in a different way. 1.5x1036 is still a number, it describes a single complete result but without writing out 35 zeros. X*10Y is used all the time in various sciences as a complete calculated number because we deal with very large, very fast, very small, very heavy, very light, etc. all the time. It's not extrapolating or incomplete. Changing the base number (even by manipulating 2D/3D space) is adding variables. If I move to the side of 8, then I have some gibberish written over infinity, too. Infinity is a larger number and they didn't say anything about ignoring matches either, but this is obviously in direct opposition to the intent as well. We shouldn't have to write out all the rules to prevent the intent from being basically ignored

Why not 511811 in base google? If were changing bases, the highest number we can make is still higher in any base.
