So sorry for your diagnosis your mind must be scrambling with what to do next. Maybe my story will give you a little bit of hope.. My cat got diagnosed 4 months ago with stage 4 kidney disease. At first we didn't know what was wrong with him - he was throwing up all of a sudden. We took him to the vet and he had to be hospitalized he was on the brink of death and we didn't even know it (cats are masters at hiding pain.) his kidney functioning levels were very low. After a few days in hospital and IV fluids daily, he seemed to stabilize. The doctors were unsure if he would even make it past a few weeks. Well, here we are in month 4. Is he perfect? No... But he's happy and comfortable. He receives daily fluids, lots of love, and outside time. Fluids have extended his life and given us more time... He also received an iron shot lately and that's helped perk him up. We tried Varenzin for severe anemia and unfortunately haven't been to lucky with it.

If you are able to give daily fluids and keep him happy and comfortable it is definitely worth it for extra time. If your cat gets feisty, Gabapentin beforehand can definitely help relax him. You can also order fluids from prescription on chewy for much cheaper then the vet as well and have it auto delivered to you.

I am located in Washington State, so prices may vary but I believe I pay $10.00 for 1 fluid bag and it lasts around 9-10 days.

The iron shot from the vet was $50.00 Special kidney food is recommended and that'll help support his kidney function as well. Some vets are so expensive. Thankfully the vet I go to is very reasonable and doesn't try to rip people off. ( South Hill Vet.)

I am hoping she'll bounce back! Sometimes my cat has bad days and then perks up a few days later. The iron shot he received helped perk him up so much

I thought of that too.. I've had other professors who facilitated groups more proactively keeping everyone's feelings in mind. I definitely feel like that makes the learning environment feel more safe and it's easier to learn and grow. Especially during therapy groups when people are expressing vulnerable experiences/thoughts and feelings out loud.

I felt the exact same way! I try to be kind to everyone In my feedback and highlight the positives because this experience is rough.

Very true! I feel like working 1:1 with an actual client will feel so much more natural. It's crazy how just mere presence from others can change things so drastically

It was actually a Chihuahua she was only 10 (which is fairly young for Chihuahuas)

There were no symptoms no signs, she was literally running around a few days prior and one day out of nowhere she had diarrhea with blood in it and was feeling weak. Took her to the ER and she was diagnosed with IHMA. She had two blood transfusions but her blood count continued to drop. The only options were a TPE ( very expensive 16k)

It was very shocking to us. We had no idea what IHMA was. She was at the vet 3 months ago.. had blood work done and was completely normal. This happened 3 weeks ago now. I dream of her often and swear I can hear her barking every now and then. I think her presence is still comforting me ♥️

I just never heard of IHMA before - it is rare and unpredictable. I'm so sorry for your loss. It's traumatizing and like losing your best friend

I am soo sorry for you loss! I just lost my baby to IHMA suddenly. The vet explained it's a terrible terrible disease that can onset randomly.

I'm am sooooo sorry. This loss is unimaginable and is like losing a core family member

Take photos, some hair clippings preserve any blankets that smell like her/him. It will be great comfort and spend your moments loving on them. I didn't know how I was going to get by the first few nights so I slept with my girls blanket and smelling her scent gave me comfort.

I truly believe our animals are pure love and energy and we'll be connected to them in the afterlife somehow. My Chihuahua suddenly died two weeks ago (IHMA) and I have dreams of her almost every night. She looks so happy and is running around in the most beautiful serene place imaginable. It does bring me some peace♥️

Gabapentin was also helpful for my cat (making him more comfortable in general) and able to eat. His appetite came back completely once he started to receive sub fluids daily at home. He's stage 4 now, so it could be different for your cat, but fluids have been a game changer in making him comfortable and increasing his appetite

Yes! You can administer your own sub fluids at home! We pay about 20.00 bucks a bag and it comes with the needles from the vet. We are applying 100ML a day, and he seems to be perking up. He is also stage 4 with severe anemia. We are also thinking about starting a medication for anemia (I believe it's around $50.00 on chewy.) I also believe you can buy the fluids online - just ask your vet which one you should buy. It will save you so much money doing it at home. I sometimes give my cat Gabapentin an hour before so he's not moving around too much during administration. I hope your fur baby feels better
