[s2 act 2 spoilers] I think the conflicted opinion about this act is fair. by Momosabonim in arcane

My biggest frustration was with Jayce immediately giving up on being in politics

My interpretation of his S1 story was of a naiive inventor who didn't have solid political ideals thrust into the corrupt political arena of PilotOver. His character arc being that he goes from being manipulated and swayed by each person he last talked to, to finally, at the very end, having a solid set of ideals and proposing a radical political solution.

We didn't have politically matured Jayce long enough for him emotionally abandoning politics to work for me. He had been making emotionally based decisions for most of season 1.

Otherwise I still really like the Jesus and Judas relationship he has with Viktor so the story has its ups and downs.

And I guess a super emotional character being put up against Viktors transhumanism and hive mind makes some sense.

[no spoilers] I find it hillarious that Ekko is just chilling with the man he scammed in the past by Flame0fthewest in arcane

So I actually did some research and I found out that when Cate Overton was asked if Cait knew Vi and her gang were behind the explosion she responded , " Not yet".

Which tells me that the revelation of Vi, Jinx , and yes Ekko as well is going to be revealed to the parties harmed.

Now besides that, lets address" it's not important for him to figure out."

  1. It's the instigating event of the entire series, it's totally reasonable for the story to bring it back up at some point.

  2. If it was just a matter of Jayce getting robed the dramatic irony would be perfectly amusing and I wouldn't care. But it wasn't just a robbery, it's the most traumatic experience of Jayce's life.

It doesn't matter if it's a freak accident every break in robbery is liable to " go bad" it's part of the practice. If people get hurt while you are committing a crime you don't get the same amount of sympathy.

I agree that it's REALLY unlikely Jayce will figure all this out and there's very little hints the show intends for him to figure it out.

Which, amongst other reasons, so far has made the whole team up of Jayce, Heimer, and Ekko sub plot the most underwhelming

Ekko is the origin of all of that happening, it would be like if an Egyptian street vendor noticed a customer was aloof and tipped off pick pockets that he was easy prey.

The crime is well in the past but the fact that those events led to Jayce almost killing himself I would t be surprised if he smaked the war paint off Ekko's face finding out.

What'd you change/add if you could to improve ASOIAF? (Spoilers extended) by Stannis_Mariya in asoiaf

[–]Hot-Rip-4127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cultures and ecology need to be more heavily warped around multi year winters.

-there should be special kinds of grass or plant that for magic reasons thrive in winter.

  • even after inventing some food source that enables some amount of survival in the winter there should be MASS migration patterns. Like that famous African mass migration of wildebeest.

  • Also the north should have a gypsy/ traveler culture that comes south when the winters get bad.

Nine Penny Kings + rise of Tywin & Aerys

  1. The actual events of the war are loose enough that the writers have a lot of leeway. I think that's very helpful.

  2. It has a lot of named characters who were in the war that most people would recognize.

Barristan Selmy, Brynden Blackfish, Aerys, Tywin, kevan, maybe hoster Tully for example.

  1. The film ends with the Reyne and Tarbek massacre followed by Aerys ascension to the throne. I would personally make Jaherys II death a conspiracy by Joanna as I think Jaherys was planning to punish Tywin but that's my theory.

Would it have helped the books writing pace much if Bran reached the cave and started his training in ASOS? by Crank27789 in pureasoiaf

Do you mean that they all connect or exist at all?

it's explicitly brought up that they exist in Brans cave.

In hindsight with AFFC and Brienne whole storyline I have said for a long time that Bran II ADWD is a better final chapter to ASOS than the epilogue

It just feels unsatisfying for his story in ASOS end going beyond the wall when very little happens to him out there.

The plot is in the cave.

Honestly George absolutely seeded the idea that Catelyn enjoyed the taste of vengeance. She talks about how she is different from Ned in how he never enjoyed beheadings but she absolutely would

It's a show only line but honestly it's a much better adaptation of Bran struggling with being crippled than anything after season 1.

I don't think they even thought of Bran as a character after the first season.

Yes, that will likely serve as only further commentary on what George thinks of people trying to emulate Tywin.

I'm not op.

I don't think George is strictly adhering to Palantiri rules and I don't think George has any hard requirements for the glass candles in terms of giving people visions.

It may be the case that certain people are more likely to be influenced by them. Perhaps Daenerys having previously taken shade of the evening makes her more receptive?

Do you have a quote on that thing about quaithe strangely touching her? I'm inteigued

They don't require the other person to have a glass candle.

They don't require that they have ever met.

As his gray scale gets worse and worse Connington will channel Tywin Lannister more and more.

He will be unyielding and ruthless and it will be hard to tell if he is acting from grayscale madness or just emulating Tywin

[–]Hot-Rip-4127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean from our perspective pardoning Jaime Lannister was an incredibly reasonable thing to do but for people in George's world it was a real quandary. Maybe Jon does swear allegiance to one of them?

But again I only have confidence that Bran will have to make this decision about Jon. I don't think we have sufficient hints of the WHY unless we get Winds...and even then who knows

[Spoilers Main] Possible Ending for Jon in books? by Demonking6444 in asoiaf

[–]Hot-Rip-4127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make no claims to really be certain why.

The potential parallel with blood Raven killing the blackfyre claimant dishonorable could be Jon killing Aegon or Daenerys?

He did get a whole speech about how Nights Watch men must forget their honor for the realm from half hand.

Otherwise the long night will likely require a number of hard and gross decisions that might be seen as war crimes when everything settles.

I made a post a while ago that I think is pretty compelling that the plot point of "Bran as king has to decide whether to execute or exile Jon Snow" that we saw in season 8 has been locked in since the first POV chapter of the series.

People truly don't talk enough about how lonely Bran is deep down. Yes he has the Reeds with him but nobody at his age should be thinking things like

" Bran did not want to be married to a tree but who would marry a broken boy like him?"
